Summer is coming !
That’s what I heard anyway.
Apparently it’s a season that happens after spring. They say it gets warm and sunny then.
Who knew?!
Anyway it’s a good time to be thinking about your summer wardrobe.
May as well plan to look fabulous even if the weather is miserable.
Smile !
I’ve tracked down the 10 key pieces you need to go from spring into summer.

A long line sleeveless vest
I’m a big fan of the sleeveless jacket. (Talking about it since 2015) Or the waistcoat. (More here) Both are perfect layering pieces. Not as heavy as a coat. Not as covered up as blazer. But just as chic. The tailoring gives you shape. Skims over the bits. Looks polished. But because its sleeveless it can be totally casual. Just the thing in Spring to layer over a white tee or tank. With jeans. With chinos. With matching slouchy pants. Go for black, white or neutral. Of course.

A cotton cargo taupe skirt.
It might a wrap skirt. Or A-Line. Ditch the idea of a pencil skirt. Not versatile. Never looks good with flats unless you are a stick insect. Can be too corporate. BUT. The A-line skirt is a winner. Should be long. I’m talking over the knee but probably longer. Make sure it’s in khaki or in camel. Wear now with a cotton sweater. Then into summer with a white tank, dad sandals or sneakers.

Chinos /cargoes:
When jeans are too casual. When black pants are too dressy. You reach for cargoes or chinos. They are pivotal to your wardrobe. Especially in summer. Make sure they are wide leg. With pockets or not. In cotton. Go for khaki. beige. Black. You will wear them with pretty white blouses, with a blazer, with a statement tee, with a tank. Wear with flats or pointy ballets flat.

Jeans:
You need wide leg jeans. With a high waist. But you knew that. They might be baggy. They might be flare. They look great with flats. You know how some pants never look good with sneakers or flats? Wide leg jeans always look great with flats. Which is a good thing because flats aint going anywhere in fashion.  Or in our life. haha. Wear high waist wide leg jeans right now with a slouchy sweater, a sleeveless vest and sneakers. When it’s warmer with a shoulder pad tee shirt, a plain white tee and an oversized blazer. Add chunky sandals. They look modern. And right. Doesn’t matter what colour jeans. In fact you need white jeans, dark denim and light denim…Done.

A midi dress
It’s so hard to find a good dress. For every day. Everything is too sexy. Too many cut outs. Too short. Too covered up in black ( you’ll look like a Greek Mama at a funeral). Or you’ll find a great shape dress but it will be in a bright colour or print. Nooo thank you. Aging. Tricky. never looks expensive unless it is. You want short puff sleeves. Or big bell sleeves. Sleeveless is good. You want fit and flare shape. Maybe tiered. Over the knee or longer. That means you can wear it with flats. Strappy sandals. Go for white, black, khaki. Navy is good. So is camel. No surprises there.

An oversized blazer:
I’ve been banging on about an oversized blazer for so long , since 2017. You bought one when first instructed? Congratulations you’ve had 5 years wear.  Late to the party? Please don’t cry. The oversized blazer is just mid way through it’s trend so you’ve got another few years yet. Invest now. In camel. Neutral. Khaki. Navy. White. Grey. You will wear it on chilly days like a cardigan ( with all pants from jeans to slouchy chinos). In summer , with pushed up sleeves over every white tee/top/shirt you own.  If you need a jacket that’s not a blazer this one is great !

A white tank:
You need a white tank. it’s the item du hour.  You don’t want clingy. You want it ribbed so it doesn’t cling to the ‘situation’. You want serious shoulder action. ( gives good arm) With shoulder pads. Or just broad. Or cutaway. You want to layer this white tank under everything. Under a shirt ( that’s worn undone). Under a blazer. A shacket. Wear with everything from chinos, jeans to skirts. Because white next to your face takes 10 years off. Not joking.

A statement White Tee:
This is a jooshed up white tee. That you can wear it on its own. And you look good. It should have structure, be in sturdy fabric. Nothing flimsy. It needs to makes a statement. As opposed to a layering piece. This is a top that doesn’t need help with a jacket to look chic. It can be sleeveless but dramatic puff sleeves are good too. The bigger the better. (Which means you won’t get a blazer on anyway, lols). Wear tucked into your jeans, chinos or pleat front pants. Also look great with a cargo skirt.

The blue shirt:
Please don’t say it is too corporate or reminds you of a school uniform. Enough of this talk! A stripe shirt looks so chic under a blazer. With jeans. With leather pants. As you can see here on SHOPwithfifi. A stripe shirt is the only print you should wear ! So you need the stripes to add a little joosh to your wardrobe. Go for a big size. Stops it looking too neat & too boring & straight. And you know what else stops a stripe shirt from looking too preppy ? Wide leg jeans . In a light wash. The jeans need jooshing UP. And the stripe shirt needs jooshing DOWN. Match made in heaven !

A summer trench.
Of course a trench should be on the list. Don’t you know who I am ?!! lols. You’ll wear as a cover up not so much to keep warm. Because it can be sleeveless. Wear over a white tee or light cotton knit. With jeans. With pleather. With  chinos and sneakers. Over a summer dress. It will make anything look polished and chic. Best to choose a light colour. Beige, camel. white. A summery fabric. Layer all white under it. Layer all black under it. Layer all denim under it. Wear it alot in this rain. It’s a wardrobe essential.

Accessories:
In shoes: you need a white mule , a tan mule. Not too high . You need taupe sneakers ( see here) and Ballet flats. You need chunky flat sandals. They make everything look modern. Oh and they are comfortable. Go for tan. Or white. Are there any other colours? ha ! Also I’m hankering after strappy flat sandals. Birks. Of course. Go for big sunglasses. With a brown lens. Or with a white frame. And always spend as much as you can on a fabulous designer bag. In a casual shape. Done !
