Unfortunately it‘s an occupational health hazard and I keep adding to cart. Please send help !
The thing is I don’t want to spend alot on summer pieces, I find it’s the winter season when I want to invest in what I call ‘gutsy’ pieces like coats and blazers. SO this week as I have been searching for cool low key summer pieces that won’t break the bank and also fill a few gaps in my wardrobe …and yours.

My picks Zara:
Bought this cute blue stripe Tee: Great cut, covers arms just in the right place. Looks cool rather than preppy or too jaunty and nautical. I’ll wear with blue jeans and brown /camel chinos.
Also ordered this brown and white stripe long sleeve tee. It’s the kind of top to throw over a swimsuit at the beach or on holidays with camel / white drawstring pants or with denim shorts.
If you need chinos ( hint : you do) these look great in Zara men’s department.
Also bought this black peplum top ( peplum is a big trend, feels new and I’m here for it !) it gives good waist. I might put in shoulder pads. I will wear with blue jeans, with black peg leg pants, with white denim shorts. It’s that smart casual top that’s perfect for dinner out in summer.( I will add a little fake tan to the arms !)
Tempted by this white crochet top: it’s handy dot com. Looks chic NOT boho no no. ( avoid anything remotely Boho).
It’s an interesting texture without being toooo dressy. Wear with white pants. With camel chinos. You know the drill !

Speaking of jeans : I think Zara have the best jeans. Why? Because they spend the money tweaking and getting the cut exactly right. Because they can. They have the resources. I am buying these again as I thrashed the last pair and they are wilting a bit from my constant repeat wear. I buy a size bigger so they sit a little lower.
Oh and how fabulous is this beaded top? Love with jeans. Zara just gets it. The styling. Photography. Models. SO good.
I could actually do a post every week devoted to Zara. Maybe I will ! Thoughts?

My picks COS
Always a great place for minimal chic , amazing quality for the price too. These pants are so good. Much better in IRL. A bit more interesting than wide leg slouchy pants which you probably already have in your wardrobe right? Great colour. Cotton mix fabric. You can wear casually like this or with heels..and a peplum top! Love this red /burgundy top , try it with camel or white pants. It’s such a great cut. Day to evening. And if you got your hands on this fab waistcoat lucky you ! More of my picks here.

You must know that white tees with an extended shoulder are MY GO TO for summer: They give good arm, don’t cling and looked farshun. It’s hard to carry off a white tee so the cut has to be right . On sale . I’ll get medium.

Do you know this brand? It’s fabulous cool label that is a little off the radar. Like the Frankie Shop. The good news it’s now available at TheIconic. Love and adore this white Tee, it’s all about an exaggerated cut . That’s what makes it modern. ( instead of frumpy florals and pesky prints)( but you know that).

My picks Uniqlo :
Love the menswear at Uniqlo. Tried on these barrel chinos and they are THE best colour , a much richer caramel then in the photo…and a sturdier good quality cotton. I’ll roll up the hem. Chinos are what you need when jeans are too casual but black pants are just a snoozefest. Boring. Casual chic with a sequin top and heels. Always love that look.
Also check out these dresses for summer /beach holiday. Flattering cut and love the mix of fabrics ! This skirt is great too : casual , good cut and easy to wear with a white shoulder pad tee. And add white or brown thong mules. Did you nab the similar one from Uniqlo a few years ago? I LOVED it. Oh and don’t forget to grab the white denim culottes.

My pick at H&M :
I was lucky to grab this fabulous crochet peplum top in store. Got medium. I will wear over a black tank. Now I have two fabulous black low key peplum tops. That should do me. ( Not sure where I think I am going ??)( as they say don’t buy for the lifestyle you DREAM you have; OOPS!) May I remind you that black is always better in summer
( than winter) as you have the freshness of bare arms to lighten it up. I will wear it with the usual suspects : blue jeans, black balloon pants and with baggy white chinos. Hint: If you are after an evening black top with a little more arm coverage this is great. Layer over a black tank. Duh.

Scanlan Theodore:
Always looking for a good dress for day/ lunch: When you want to look chic, a little polished but low key. This is great , the lacing up the front will give you shape, the cotton is great quality. It’s also in chic chocolate brown: come to mama !
Of course the shoulder pad tank is a winner ( don’t panic the Tee also comes with sleeves!) and love this cool funnel neck jacket. Wear over a white tee with jeans or with a pencil skirt. More of my picks here

Witchery :
It’s looking good this season and I take my hat off to any Australian brand that can compete with huge conglomerates like Zara and H&M. It’s tough out there . I ordered yet another black top for all the parties and drinks I think I am going to be invited too haha. It’s on sale and very FiFi approved with the cut away neckline ( flattering !) and love the pretty chiffon fabric and the tie neck. Reminder it’s all about table top dressing, focus on the top where the attention is ( no one is bending down and staring at your knees so get over it haha). Also at Witchery are these cool cargo shorts in white and khaki. And I think these lace black pants are the coolest. Wear with a black tee and strappy heels and you’re read for any evening out ( don’t worry they have sneaky removable bike shorts so you’re not flashing anything!)

Oroton :
Always great bags here obviously and this season lots of great pieces to choose from. Fantastic quality for the price don’t you think?! Love this top, I need it in my life. It’s a bit jooshier than a white tee, but not a cotton shirt, fills a gap. A bit more elevated but not too dressy. The neckline is chic and has attitude ! The extended shoulders : Yes ! The fabric has a bit of structure (not too floppy : so you won’t look it) . Of course the colour is great. You’ll wear with white pants but also with blue denim jeans and of course the camel.
Speaking of versatile tops this is also a winner . It’s the elevated T shirt that will go desk to dinner and back again. It will be the piece you will thrash in your wardrobe. Gorgeous fabric. Great cut. Worth every cent because the beaded necklace is removable. Hello : it’s almost a free gift with purchase ! I had a very similar top from COS years ago and WORE it and WORE It. Been searching to replace it. Thank you Oroton. Imagine it with barrel jeans/cotton chinos/shorts with white kitten heels and a tan bag. Out at night with the necklace, black shorts and black heels. Now you’re talking. BTW it’s the season of the skirt and this is fab. Don’t be afraid of a pencil skirt, it can be so flattering and relaxed. Not sure of the styling here with the stripe skirt and flats it doesn’t look sexy or appealing IMO. I’d wear with a white shoulder pad tee or say the stripe Zara top above with strappy thong heels. (A straight skirt is so tricky to carry off with flats). Would look cool with my Dissh cotton knit and white kitten heels . And if you’re after a dress LOVE this in white ( and camel !). Detachable belt. Looks great with flats. Good collar. 100% cotton.
