Boots ! Boots ! Boots ! Which ones & how to wear them #neednow.

Boots.
This season it can be confusing.
Which ones to choose?
Flat combat boots or not?
How do I wear them?
What colours to go for?
Questions, Questions, Questions!
The thing is comfort is not always elegant.
And heels are not always so comfortable.

My advice?

Buy both low chunky ankle boots and knee high boots with a heel.
(Of course flat riding boots are fabulous as well).
Invest in knee high boots and say au revoir to those low ankle boots you wore for years. Soz.

There’s a big reason to love knee high boots:

  • Versatile!
  • You can wear them with skirts AND jeans.
  • I have been living in white heeled boots for the last two years for that exact reason.
  • They look fabulous under wide crop jeans or so chic with a long skirt.
  • You ditched your skinny jeans remember?
  • This is why boots fit under your straight jeans.
  • You stored your skirts that stop at the knee remember?
  • This is why your long midi skirts sit so well floating right over your knee high boots.
  • In terms of colour invest in cream, taupe and brown.

NB: Black is totally fine…. BUT if wearing head to toe neutrals ? Black boots can suddenly look too heavy.

What about combat boots and how to wear them?

  • Light brown/camel or white combat boots are very tricky to carry off.
I suggest these brown/khaki ones from Zara (same colour as my Celine bag) – warning they are clumpy – and these ones from Jo Mercer.
  • Otherwise it’s best to invest in black combat boots.
  • Go as chunky as you think you can.
  • Best to go high up the leg like these Bottega ( the original !) and then let your jeans sit at the top of the boot.
  • Then add something feminine: a long pretty dress or a flirty midi skirt.
  • Or pull on black leather leggings or grey jeans to continue the colour theme from pants to shoes.
  • A big coat and a big sweater will add the necessary volume.
  • They balance out the heaviness of the chunky boots.

What type of toe to buy?

Round, square or pointy …?
A round toe or square toe is more versatile and great for weekends whereas pointy toe boots look much dressier and jooshed up. Both are right.

What if I want to wear ankle boots but don’t like combats boots?

Then invest in ankle boots that are longer so they can sit up under your crop jeans.
Like these at Arket. I bought them in caramel .

Styling tip: You want the hem of your jeans to sit just on the top of the boot.
Warning: Very fashiony people are now tucking their jeans into knee high boots.
But oh la la I just can’t go there yet!
