Need now: totally chic & casual winter jackets #Luxetoless.
How to be chic on winter weekends or when you’re living your best every day life?
Jackets. Jackets and more Jackets !
It’s the secret to effortless dressing.
They instantly joosh up everything in your wardrobe.
(Want to keep wearing everything from last year? Invest in white loafers).
Outerwear is where you need to spend your money.
I’m talking Bomber jackets, Barn jackets, blouson jackets and everything in between.
And these jackets are cool !
They will give you structure. Make a statement. Add a fashion edge. They might even keep you warm. Ha!
My picks luxe to less;
The Barn jacket:
It’s the new shape jacket in town. First seen last season at Miu Miu. Now the barn jacket hit its stride. It’s like a utility jacket. It’s like a peacoat but country. It’s big. It’s square. It’s cool. Wear it with leather leggings, jeans or chinos. Wear it layered over a knit or a white tee. With a pencil skirt and knee high boots. Go for all fifi approved colours. So brown, camel, khaki and caramel. Go big or go home: if it’s too neat you’ll look like (as I always say )The Queen at Balmoral. Not what we want right? Bless. It needs drama in the shape. I brought the men’s Uniqlo last year in large but there is a new padded version this season which is cool too.
The utility jacket:
It’s not a blazer but just as chic. It’s not a parka and it’s not a barn jacket …but nearly : a bit more sophisticated. It looks casual but cool. It should be long, mid thigh even.. It should have pockets. It probably should have a funnel neck, a drawstring waist. It gives good coverage and shape. It should be slouchy so go up a size. Wear with head to toe white. Over layers of different tones of green and khaki. Wear with jeans. Add navy under under there. Fill up the pockets and ditch your handbag. Hands free; That’s why it was invented !
The serious puffa jacket:
This is what you need to keep warm ! You should invest in a cream/neutral , brown before black. . The light colours will make a statement. I love puffa jackets. I’ll be honest: I have so many you’d think I lived on the southern tip of New Zealand haha . I have a huge black Balenciaga by H&M, a white Lululemon (the one stop shop for the best puffa jackets non?) Will pull out my beige puffer. Again. (pounced on 4 winters ago when beige was hard to find). I wear them all. With heels and boots and sneakers. With skirts and jeans. Oh and I’ve now nabbed this one from Lululemon (in downtown tan) sensational !
The quilted jacket:
This is a puffer lite ! I’ve been wearing this mango khaki puffa for 4 years now ; love it, still so right. This is similar. You need it your life. I’d say it’s almost my most worn piece in my wardrobe. Because it’s lighter than a big puffa it’s great for travel : great for every day over leggins, with leather pants or chinos. Make sure it’s long over your butt and covers your floppy bits ( we all have them!) So good in Khaki. Wear with black leather leggings if you like the idea of slim with oversized but also with your khaki barrel leg pants or brown jeans.
The pea coat:
It’s a classic updated ! What’s a peacoat I hear you ask! It’s double breasted and shorter than a coat. They are more casual than a long dramatic coat. They look very French. Tres Parisienne non? Polished. Effortless. This season it’s slouchy ( of course!) and roomy though still tailored. I love camel and grey ( surprise!) and black. Wear with denim jeans. Wear with white jeans. Over a knit. Over a white tee. With a flirty skirt and knee high boots.
The bomber jacket:
It’s new, it’s cool, it’s also a great piece to have because it’s short . Why? Because it looks good with all your high waist pants and skirts and jeans. To show off the waist that you might have. Or give the illusion you do ! Go for brown or suede. Or denim. Cotton. leather. It’s like a cardigan but cooler. And I am not a fan of cardigans. FRUMPY and shapeless. But I love a bomber , it’s the zip and the sporty vibe that makes it cool! I’ve ordered this quilted bomber : can’t wait to show you .
The short slip on jacket:
This is a slashie ! Meaning it’s a hybrid peacoat slash crop trench slash cardigan slash a blouson. It’s usually in wool melton , sometimes collarless and always short. See here. It’s handy dot com. You wear it going out to dinner , inside, at home . Whereas a peacoat or a parka, barn jacket etc are all outdoor coats . You’ll take them off when you’re in a restaurant. This short jacket is the missing jacket in your life. Wear like this here , with jeans, with a pencil skirt with barrel leg pants.
The crop trench:
Love a trench. Love a crop trench. I’ve been wearing a crop trench for 5 years now and it’s still right. It goes without saying a crop trench is like an expresso instead of a latte. Same impact as a long trench but easier to sock down ! Again it’s more casual than a long trench. Works for travelling too. Because it’s not a huge coat that gets bulky on a plane. It should be beige, camel or neutral or beige. Ha surprise! Just so much better in a lighter colour. Then you go black or white/ grey under it. It could be long with a belt and always slouchy for casual weekends. They’re the best !
The leather jacket:
I am not a fan of biker jackets. Very hard to pull off unless you’re a model off duty. Tricky to style. Instead if you want a leather jacket ?A funnel neck blouson is the way to go. No zips or buckles. Just plain and simple in a strong dramatic cut. Chic and very sophisticated. Black is good of course and every tone of brown is fabulous. Wear with high waist jeans , slouchy baggy jeans or chinos /pants. Over a pencil skirt. Or a pretty lace number. It’s the jacket of the season.
A parka.
Love and adore a parka. Celine showed a beige parka on the runway years ago and I was hooked. Suddenly not just for birdwatchers or train spotting . It needs to be in an exaggerated shape. Long ! Chic in a brown or neutral. Means you can toss it over white jeans and slouchy knit. All your neutrals. Pull on loafers, flat boots, a cross body bag. Suddenly you’re chic. which is the aim non?
More as always on LTK,
