A touch of red : it’s the best styling trick of the season !
This week we are talking about the importance of a touch of red.
Last week’s FiFi Report was all about delicious chocolate brown.
The good news? These two colours are fabulous together!
It‘s the new colour combination and it feels new. It’s feels fresh. Cool.
The one thing in common with all the red outfits below: it’s mostly styled back with camel, beige and brown.
It’s the modern way to wear it.
Most importantly stick to Red in accessories. It might be shoes, a red tights, a red scarf or red bag.
(A red trouser suit ? Nope. A red dress? A big red coat ? Only for A devil wears Prada !)( eeek).
Too tricky to carry off, red never looks expensive unless it is, and even then it can be too much.
That’s the thing with red: You need only a touch!
It’s the way you get colour in your wardrobe without, you know, it taking over.
The clever thing about this pop of colour is that it means you can still keep wearing ALL your neutrals and browns but it changes up those neutrals a bit and injects some fun.
If I am going to wear red it will be a sweater wrapped around my waist a la Chanel . Yes !
Or tossed around my shoulders like a scarf or through my belt ( see so many street picks below)
I love the idea of red socks and red hosiery : I’ve been chatting about it for a few years now and it’s still cool.
I am hankering after red sandals but not really bright red heels ( again giving Devil wears Prada vibes) ( this is not good!). I might grab a red clutch but probably a burgundy red is more the way to go.
Red: It can be tricky to get right:
It’s not about going into your wardrobe and pulling any old red thing from years ago and putting it on. No!No !
It has to be the right shade, a new modern shape, a cool way of styling.
Never fear FiFi is here : I am here to guide you through red and all its nuances.
Here are tips and tricks on red , what to buy, why you want it and how to style it.
A red knit
When the Chanel designer Mathieu Blazy shows touches of red and keeps showing it in each collection you know it’s a thang. If you wear a red knit sweater make sure it’s back with choc brown pants, blue denim or camel. Wear with a pencil skirt ! It can be too much with black TBH. I love the idea of a red /orange knit used an accessory and worn like a scarf. Or a short sleeve red knit works over white or shirt : it seems to tone it down a bit. Wrap a scarf around your belt see below.

Red stripe top:
SO in the latest Chanel Resort show a few says ago there were a few red stripes scattered around . Love it ! I think a red stripe top back with brown in it like this one from Zara is great. Again wear with brown or camel . Stripes are the way to get a print in your wardrobe without , you know , actually wearing a print haha.

The red bag:
I think it should be small and cross body. If you are wanting a bigger red bag (unless it’s a serious designer mega buck bag !) ( lucky you !) I would go for a more subtle red burgundy like this one. A clutch is good too. It’s the best way to add colour to your wardrobe. Subtle and chic. But wear it with brown, camel or white. Buy here, here and here

The red scarf
It’s probably the easiest way to rock some red in your wardrobe. A chocolate brown leather jacket and brown jeans? Add a red scarf. Thread it through your belt and just have fun with it. And if you don’t want or need a big scarf then a little pochette scarf around your neck , it’s a thang ! It’s not really about keep warm ! Buy here, here and here

Red hose and Red socks:
Love this look with red shoes and hose, I think I will give it a go this winter ( I just need a place to wear it !) . You can buy fabulous red hosiery here and red socks from Uniqlo. Red socks look great back with brown loafers : fabulous. Just a touch of colour is all you need.

The red strappy sandal:
You saw the Jil Sander last year and the red strappy sandal is still so right. A bright red shoe can be too much whereas a sandal with some bare skin seems to tone it down. Wear with hosiery or just with jeans or camel chinos. Again it’s just about a touch of red to bring something unexpected to your neutrals. Love these heels and these and these

The red thong/ flat sandals/sneakers
Yes, we all saw The Row thongs last summer for a ridiculous price. They will be around next summer and I do love a little bit of red in summer with white jeans. I nabbed these sandals ( similar here) last summer and I will wear them again next season. Buy red thongs here
Speaking of shoes: A red sneaker is another cool way to get colour into wardrobe without going crazy . The best way to wear sneakers is with camel chinos and say a long brown coat. With slouchy jeans and a camel trench. Or try red sneakers with brown leather baggy pants and a slouchy brown sweater. You don’t need to add another red thing . The power of a single shot of red works wonders ! Buy here and here

The red earrings :
Again a little bit of red goes a long way ! A red bold earring can be a great way to add personality and colour. Loved these Chanel earrings below and also these and these. You could wear with a black or brown dress, or knits, with jeans or casual chinos.

Red gloves:
When it gets cold ( one day !)I will be thrilled if I can pull out red gloves with all my browns or chic grey. Again it’s just a touch of colour and a little unexpected: If you have red gloves , make it the only piece of colour. It is more dramatic that way. Don’t try adding red this and that (bags and shoes ) : keep it simple ! Buy here and here
