Casual Jackets: it’s the secret to looking chic every day. #luxetoless

How to be chic on casual weekends or when you’re living your best every day life?
I’ve got one word to say to you: Jackets.
It’s the secret to effortless dressing.
Watch as they instantly joosh up everything in your wardrobe.
(Want to keep wearing everything from last year? Invest in white shoes)
Outerwear is where you need to spend your money.
It’s the piece that is seen first. It makes a statement. Your underneath pieces don’t have to.
These jackets are cool !
Why?
Because they are NOT blazers. ( Actually I have included one blazer but it’s DENIM!).
They are easy, toss on jackets that have a laid back feel. They add a fashion edge. Light enough for spring but still perfect for layering and traveling as they are trans-seasonal.
Everybody stopped looking !
I’ve tracked down the best jackets you need now from luxe to less.
I am not saying you need all these jackets ( confession: I do!) but pick and choose what suits you, your life and budget.

BTW if these look a little dark and wintery , imagine them over white jeans and white tee. With dad sandals. Green sneakers and loafers. Got it?

Crop trench:
Love a crop trench. So it goes without saying a crop trench is like an expresso instead of a latte. Same impact as a long trench but easier to sock down ! Again it’s more casual than a long trench. Perfect for spring. Works for travelling too. Because it’s not a huge coat that gets bulky on a plane. It should be beige, camel or neutral or beige. Ha surprise! Just so much better in a lighter colour.  It should be long and slouchy for casual weekends. They’re the best see here.

The khaki utility jacket:
It’s not a blazer but just as chic. It gives good coverage and shape. But it looks casual but cool. It should be long. it should have pockets. Wear over head to toe black. Over head to toe white. Over layers of khaki. Wear with jeans. Add navy under under there. Fill up the pockets and ditch your bag.

The sleeveless vest or jacket.
I’ve been banging on about these for years. Why? Because they are so damn practical ! A blazer without sleeves :what more do you want? It means you get the coverage and structure of a blazer but you’re not dying of heat. Perfect layering piece over a knit or tee in spring, with nothing underneath in summer. It’s relaxed but polished. A slouchy vest is cool too. Black is chic in summer.

The pea coat:
It’s a classic updated ! A peacoat is double breasted and short. For spring it can be in cotton. Navy is the way to go but also I love camel. (Or khaki like this like this in cotton). They are more casual than a blazer but just as chic.  They look very French. Polished. Effortless. This season it’s slouchy ( surprise!) and roomy though still tailored. Wear with denim jeans. Wear with white jeans. Over a tee. With a flirty pleat skirt and dad sandals or sneakers.

The bomber jacket:
It’s a great piece to have, it’s modern. Relaxed. Cool. It can be oversized and groovy. If it’s short it looks good with high waist pants, skirts and jeans. To show off the waist that you might have. Or give the illusion you do ! I should know ! Go for cotton. Or denim. It’s like a cardigan but it’s groovier. And I am not a fan of cardigans. But I love a bomber ! Both shapeless but that’s never stopped me!

The shacket:
It’s a shirt slash jacket. Get it? It’s a shacket ! It might be camel. Beige. Or denim. It might be in pleather. It’s like a shirt on steroids. It’s long and oversized. Perfect for casual weekends. You toss over a light knit. You toss over a white tee. You wear it undone and it just hangs like a jacket. It’s the perfect weekend jacket.

The denim jacket.
Like everything else in the world this has grown in size. It’s not that teeny denim jacket that you can’t do up. The new denim jacket is bigger. Don’t worry it can be a neat fit as well but make sure you can actually do it up. Over a knit. It can be long. it can short. It can be a denim blazer. It can be white ( perfect for summer a dress instead of (god forbid a frumpy cardigan !) or any colour denim. Choose your own adventure. Always best over a white tee but try wearing a denim jacket with a pleated skirt or a long A line cargo skirt. Double denim is ok as long as you update the shapes.

The leather jacket:
I am not a fan of biker jackets. Very hard to pull off unless you’re a model off duty. Tricky to style. I’m including here because it’s a big lewk for next winter. So invest now. A short Chanel style jacket is the way to go. Feminine. Chic and very sophisticated. Black is fine ( it has texture so it’s not boring ) but brown is just gorgeous. Over a white tee. Loves high waist jeans or pants. A pretty skirt with socks and loafers. Cool.

The quilted jacket:
This is handy dot com. I’m should be loose. It might lightweight. You can keep wearing into spring with a white tee. It’s supposed to be oversized – otherwise you will look like the Queen in Balmoral. You need the drama to make it chic. Make sure it’s long over the butt. Love it in in Khaki . Or even really long like like this. Note: these jackets will be around next winer. Wear with leggings if you like the idea of slim with oversized.

A parka.
Love and adore a parka. Celine showed a beige parka on the runway years ago and I was hooked. Suddenly not just for birdwatchers or train spotting . It needs to be in an exaggerated shape. It can be short like this or long like this. Chic in a brown, white/bone (!) or neutral. Means you can toss it over all your old black lurking in your wardrobe.  A cool cross body bag. Suddenly you’re chic. which is the aim non?
