What: white or silver flats.
Why: Because white or silver flats are life changing ! They instantly lighten your lewk. Suddenly your old wardrobe looks new and modern. Because white flats make all your boring straight pieces suddenly look cool. Those black pants that are now looking just very straight and average ? Add white flats. That dress that might be a bit last season in length? Add white flats. That stripe tee and jeans that look too chi chic/ average/non de la non with a boring dainty sandal? Add a white or silver flats and voila ! Instant groove. Maybe you’ve got new white jeans or new slouchy cream/camel pants? Suddenly black shoes look wrong with all those neutrals. Too dark. Too heavy . Too ..old fashioned ! Add white/ silver flats..and you’ve nailed it. They just work. Because flats are comfortable. They look modern. Effortless. Because you can walk and walk. And talk and shop. Story of my life. Haha. And look chic doing it.
Which: They should be white, cream or silver. Gold is Ok. Pointy is fabulous and edgy. But round toe is just as good. I wear both. Depending on what I feel like. Pointy add an edge to camel pants and round toe looks great with jeans. Sling backs are cool and so are ankle straps . Love totally flat or a little block heel. Loafers are great too. I would advise to get a white sole. Or a tan sole. A black sole can be too limiting and means the black stands out a mile if you are wearing all neutrals. It looks wrong. (But works of course if you have some black in your outfit to link it back). Remember silver is great if you feel you can’t do white/cream. And tan is a great alternative but weirdly they tone into your skin so when you wear them they don’t look as chic in my opinion as white. Just sayin.
Wear : With your entire wardrobe. Ha. The thing is , right now flats instead of heels look cool. Effortless. But it’s the colour ( not colour !) that takes your outfit to a whole new level. It’s an instant injection of chic. An instant wardrobe updaterer. That cardigan that you are going to buy to wear undone over a white tank with black pants? You will look too prim librarian with a black high heel shoe. You need the white modern pointy flats to look modern. ( if you want to look prim you are probably reading the wrong blog!). Tip: I wear white ballets flats mostly though with pants. They love wide leg jeans ( cropped or long), adore slouchy camel pants and are also very happy to be seen with fit and flare long midi dresses and skirts.
FiFi Philosophy: when your wardrobe is looking daggy and dated please don’t rush out and buy beads and scarves and jewellery or kooky colours. That will only make it worse. Invest in white /silver flats ! Done.
Hint: white look so much better on the foot than alone on the shelf so try them on : you’ll be surprised !
