A chic slouchy trouser suit? It’s work to weekend #neednow

The trouser suit is baaaack.
So you didn’t know it went away? Bless. (Hint: you better keep reading The FiFi Report !)

You may think a trouser suit can look too corporate and too boring. Wrong!
Time to get your head around the idea that they’re modern and chic. Ditch the boring old fashioned notion of a shrunken single breasted blazer with too tight low rise narrow crop pants. Dated. Tight never looks effortless.

The new trouser suit is so cool you will want to take it out for a drink instead of wearing it to work! It’s an every day piece you can wear so many different ways. Obviously for the office but think about it for casual weekend with sneakers, sweaters and flats.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR?

  • A long, loose oversized blazer.
  • It might have shoulder pads. This is good.
  • Might be double breasted or a roomy single breasted.
  • The pants are wide and/or flared, preferably long and slouchy.
  • It’s all very 1970’s YSL: what’s not to love about that ?
  • The big tip: Pick any colour. Well, any colour means ….navy, taupe, grey, white, check , dark green or brown.
(Ignore hot pink, red, purple, crazy check, yikes! They make me shudder. Never look expensive unless they are. Never versatile. (Remember celebrities wear bright kooky color because they were them once. Gone. Never again.  You, my dear FiFi followers, are building a wardrobe of versatile pieces to wear again and again. )

MY ADVICE?

  • Go for a bigger size suit.. then go crazy with shoes!
  • Wear with a white statement tee, fine knit or a simple shell top under it.
  • A round neck shirt or a pretty blouse, both great. Tuck them in.
  • If you do wear a shirt with a collar then tuck it inside the jacket.
  • In terms of shoes?
  • For every day : Trousers suit love sneakers. Got to love that. It looks so cool.
  • For the office try with pointy toe mules or flats . Mary Janes and anything with a block heel.

The good news: You can divide up the suit of course.
An oversized blazer looks fabulous with jeans. The slouchy pants love sweaters and sneakers.
