The instant wardrobe updaters? New shape jeans ! #Luxetoless

FiFi philosophy numero uno?
Update the basics!
Most women think they have a wardrobe of classics.
That they can wear forever.  Wrong !
Every 8 years or so these pieces need to be updated into new, modern shapes.
A white shirt, a trench, a little black dress, your white tee, and jeans all have a use-by date. Quite often they are actually the pieces that date first.

Today let’s talk about jeans !
Please say hello to wide leg jeans.
Jeans with a high waist.
Goodbye to low rise skinny jeans.  (Been talking about it for 7 years !)
Here’s the thing:
If you update one single piece – like wide leg jeans – suddenly the rest of your wardrobe looks great. It’s an instant wardrobe updater ! You can wear all your old pieces and they look right.
Tuck in your shirts, knits and tops. Just do it please! Add a blazer. A long coat . Flats.
Then watch your wardrobe magically look modern and chic.

What to look for?
High waist. Or mid rise ( they looked high rise about 2 years ago!)
A wide leg. If not then go for a straight leg.
A flare is good too. Baggy is great ( so damn comfortable) and so are barrel leg.
Light wash denim looks great and so chic with white knits in winter. Perfect in summer.
Dark denim is perfect when you want to look a bit more polished. Smart casual.

I love wide leg jeans but as long as you update there are lots of different shapes jeans. I have jeans in all sorts of styles.
I love these Zara marine jeans ( such a great cut )( I got size 42 they are tiny!)
and I love the very 70’s look of flares with front patch pockets and have bought these Rolla’s high waist flares.
These from H&M are the best fit. Ever. High rise flares with stretch. Yes, please.
These baggy jeans at  cotton On are great for comfort ( & slightly mid rise if you can’t do major high rise).
Don’t want anything too fashiony?
These are fabulous jeans from H&M and from Arket.
The Tibi brancusi jeans are fabulous modern shape.
These paper bag waist  from Zaraare so damn comfortable: I bought them in white and e blue ( buy bigger and wear lower !)

The question I get asked the most: What shoes?

Knee high boots look great under wide leg jeans.
Also sneakers, loafers and ballet flats look fabulous with long wide leg
Straight leg look best with a slight heel but a Chanel ballet flat is great too.
Short crop jeans are very happy to be seen with any flats or ankle boots.
And don’t be afraid of wearing pretty kitten heels with slouchy jeans.
Really long jeans that pool over your shoes are cool but with sneakers can be too um, er Seinfeld !
White pointy flats will work with all jeans.
Here’s a tip: any length that is in between , neither short or really long looks average. And dull. So I suggest that you scissors off the hem. Then buy longer next purchase.
Those short little ankle boots? They were best friends with skinny jeans. Now it’s over. Goodbye.
Want to keep wearing skinny jeans ? Please don’t cry. Here’s how to wear them. With chunky combat boots and a long over bum sweater with a seriously long coat . You’re welcome.

Styling tips:
Tuck in knits or half tuck them in front.
Don’t worry about a belt. Optional.
Flat front will give you one but pleat front are cool too.
Don’t fret if you put on high waist jeans and your boobs touch the waistband  haha. If you are short waisted there are heaps of mid rise jeans that will do the trick.
When in doubt go up a size. But hey might stretch but they will comfortable and look cool.
What goes with denim?
All the FiFi approved colours: White, camel, navy and beige. There are no other colours. Lols.
Hint: default to surrounding denim with camel ( coat, knit and shoes) before choosing black . Chicer !
Though black is not wrong. But you know how to do that.
Dress up the casual and dress down anything too jooshy.
In terms of shape? Wear what you feel good in.
Remember don’t compromise looking modern trying to look slim. You’ll end up looking neither.
FYI: All regular FiFi Report followers know I never ( rarely !) do figure fixer tips. Because fashion changes. That’s why we love it. Then all those silly rules about proportions and what’s “ flattering” change. And then you get confused.
Own it and wear the fashion. Whatever age or shape you are.
