The key pieces to instantly UPDATE your current wardrobe !

HOW TO UPDATE YOUR WARDROBE?

Just pick a few key pieces that are new and exciting.
Then watch as they will take your daggy things along for the ride.
They add instant joosh.
They will work magic on your current pieces.
I’ve learnt over the years to add a little injection here and there as you go.
You don’t need a brand new wardrobe every year.
It’s like botox and filler instead of a major facelift. Haha ( I wouldn’t know!)(maybe time to try !)
Just a little incremental tweak can work wonders!

High waist jeans
Can be straight but preferably slouchy. Preferably wide leg.
Can have side pockets like this ( I Love!) or just regular front pockets.
Instantly your old tops ( that look sad with low rise skinny jeans) look so right.
Instantly your old tops can get another season.
DO a half tuck or total tuck. Show off that waist.
Because everything suddenly looks cool with wide leg baggy jeans.

A long trench:
Please say no to any coat on or above the knee. Dated.
Time to store anything tight. Or short in the coat department.
You need long, long, long. In a beige. Tan. Camel. Oversized. Roomy cut.
Toss over anything from trackpants to a dress. ( Hide all your daggy pieces under it !)
Suddenly chic. Modern. Cool. Love this one.
(And you wonder why I am addicted !).

A BIG shoulder jacket.
This is a game changer.
It’s at the beginning of the trend. Buy now. Big shoulders are key.
They work wonders on your waist.
Toss on a big shoulder blazer, bomber or coat with your old average favourites.
Then put on white shoes. Or pointy boots.
It’s magic. Suddenly all eyes on are the jacket. You look modern. Cool.
A big shoulder jacket is like a little gin in your tonic.  You instantly feel bold. Lols.

Camel baggy pants
Wave goodbye to narrow, low rise non de la non black pants. Dated.
So daggy. So bank teller. Average, Yikes.
Invest now in camel as your every day pants! Yes, camel !
They might be camel cotton chinos. They might be slouchy camel wool trousers.
You want pleat front. You want wide leg. You want high waist.
Because when you tuck in your old black tops, blouses and knits into camel pants suddenly they look interesting.
You get more mileage from tops you loved but didn’t really know what to do with.
Still hankering black pants? Update to the modern wide leg shape !

An oversized sweater:
Tight stretched little sweaters look so dated.
And when you put them with your skinny jeans you look in the mirror and wonder why you look ,well, just um, er wrong and old. (Sorry to swear at you )
So what happens when you invest in an oversized sweater that covers your bottom?
And pull on some combat chic sneakers/boots/white shoes?
Your old daggy jeans just might make it through another season.
And your long pleat skirt will immediately look so chic.So right.
Remember : tight +tight = wrong. Tight + loose = good. Loose + loose = Yes!

A man style blazer:
In.camel. Or navy. Brown. Khaki. Check.
No black blazers please. They’re limiting. Bring everything down.
If you buy one single blazer ? Make it in a lighter colour.
Make it big. Make it long. Make it a statement.
It will take everything else along for the ride. A chic ride !
Toss it over average ol pants you’ve had for years…and a boring white tee.
Pull on new neutral sneakers, white pointy flats or chunky combat boots
The oversized blazer is an immediate updater: Miracles do happen!

Leather anything
A shirt. Pants. skirt
If you want black pants? Make them in pleather.
But add anything leather to your current wardrobe and it’s a fabulous injection of groove. I should know.
I wear leather pants or culottes nearly every day.
Because black needs texture, shine or embellishment. Black needs to be in a dramatic modern cut.
Otherwise it’s a snoozefest. And I don’t want any FiFi followers going to sleep.

A blue shirt:
It might be denim. It might be striped. Or plain blue.
I know. I know. I have been ranting about a blue shirt for years.
That’s because scientific tests have proved it : a blue shirt is an instant joosher.
It’s the bit of “colour” that will rejuvenate the neutrals. Rev up the black. Tone in with denim.
It’s like adding soda to your tap water.  Sparkle.

A puff sleeve knit
You want big sleeves. With volume. A top that makes a statement.
It’s not a long and slouchy knit. No. It’s a short top that can sit at the top of your high waist jeans.
It might be black. It might be white. Or grey. Beige. It might be in lurex.
Watch it instantly joosh up daggy old jeans. Average chinos. Boring skirts.
Then pull on pointy flats. Knee high boots. Bang !

Knee high boots.
Invest in knee high boots. Au revoir to those natty little ankle boots.
Cream /white knee high boots will instantly groove up your entire wardrobe.
Worth investing in: they work with pants AND skirts. ( ankle boots and skirt? Yes gads noooo!)
Wear under wide leg jeans. With midi skirts. With midi dresses. And wide chinos .
Check out my shopwithfifi instagram. It’s all I wear.
Why? Because they MAKE everything suddenly look cool.
If you can’t do knee high white boots, tan boots will work just as well ( black boots? Best with black or grey).

Shoes:
There is saying in fashion “It’s the shoes that sell the top” .
Meaning?
When you invest in the right shoes suddenly everything else – that is your much loved old wardrobe – gets mouth to mouth resuscitation. Suddenly the daggy top looks good. Suddenly average pants look cool.
Metallic shoes are your new go to !
They are the new neutrals. Silver or gold. Flats rather than heels.
Perfect if you don’t want to do white but still want lightness on your feet.
Metallic shoes love black, adore grey and want to kiss neutrals.
If you buy one pair of shoes this season make them silver flats.
Other shoes to instantly update the daggiest wardrobe?
Black or brown combat boots. Neutral/colourful sneakers. Pointy toe kitten heels. Add a designer tote bag : done !
