Chocolate brown. Mocha. Espresso. Cocoa. LOVE ! All my picks #luxetoless.
Chocolate brown. Mocha. Espresso. Cocoa. Donkey. Coffee. Toffee.
Whatever you call it it’s THE big colour for winter. Again.
It’s the third winter I’ve devoted a whole post to just to brown, and why not ?
I always love it and my wardrobe is bursting with it.
And so are the all the stores !
There is so much of it around even I am struggling with the choice.
SO I know you need me to sort through to find the best pieces…
It’s about planning your wardrobe.
Investing in the key foundation pieces, building blocks if you will .
Because when you plan your wardrobe , think about what you’re buying as a conscious consumer it makes getting dressed easy and effortless. Right ?!
No impulse buys, no regrets and you can get dressed with your eyes closed in 5 minutes flat.
Which has been the FiFi philosophy since I started my blog 26 years ago ( Yes, older than some of you lols)
How to wear chocolate brown?
Obviously chocolate works head to toe !
Most importantly it’s a match made in heaven with all tones of neutrals, camel and caramel.
You can try it with blue jeans, with grey jeans and white jeans. You can build around brown pieces and then add a few other colours with it like navy, black, grey and denim. Go crazy with colour ..Orange ! White ! (That’s enough colours haha..).
Hint: Don’t fuss about the tones and what colours go with what , it’s the new modern shapes that count.
Think three tones on the body. Think textures. Think Big. Think I like it !
Remember I am not saying buy everything here. Take your pick: It might be a fabulous bag and that’s all. Maybe some loafers. Could be a major coat or a leather skirt. Just add in one or two pieces in choc brown and watch as they work wonders and instantly joosh all your current pieces needing a little help in your wardrobe !
My pick of the best of chocolate brown…Luxe to less.
Brown coat:
It’s got to be long and roomy. Can be belted. Can be oversized or can have sharp shoulders. Or both. I find a slouchy look is more versatile than a more tailored neat look. That way you can wear it on weekends, in the country, Saturday coffee with jeans. It looks less stitched up. But it also out to the theatre or dinner. I absolutely adore this coat I nabbed last winter as it’s very exaggerated in the shoulders but still relaxed. Wear it over blue denim and with grey.
Brown knit:
Here’s the thing there are layering knits – something to wear under coats and jackets. Or rib knit like this. ( I have in size large)Meant to be worn under things. I like a cream knit under most things. And choc brown works too.
Don’t default to black unless you’re wearing pants and skirts ( In leather preferably ). Then there is a sweater that makes statement, that stands alone ( without a jacket). Invest in a big slouchy roll neck sweater in dark brown or camel. Any tone of brown. Wear with jeans or hanging long with leggings/stirrup pants, or front tuck into a an Aline skirt.
Brown leather jacket.
It’s the key piece of the season ! It might be a very Miu Miu inspired big bomber jacket. It’s very cool. Might be long. I do like a shorter bomber leather jacket as it sits at the top of high waist baggy jeans so creates shape. Avoid hard core biker jackets with zips everywhere in leather, way too hard to wear and only look good on models off duty. Which I am not .Ha.
Brown barrel jeans.
You know I LOVE them. Look new. Feel new. Are new. Pivotal to your wardrobe. Handy.com.The good thing with brown jeans is that denim gives your lewk a more casual laid back edge. This is good. Blue denim jeans surrounded by chocolate brown everything is a sensational look too. Loving these side pocket brown jean/pants if you already have brown baggy jeans these are a good alternative.
Brown leather pants:
Love and adore leather pants. Why ? They don’t need ironing for a start ! They add joosh and edge to everything you wear .TEXTURE. Appropriate for nearly every occasion . Wear leather pants with a slouchy knit and sneakers/ballet flats, but also with heels and a sharp blazer. Buy here. Also love a brown leather skirt , leather top or any brown leather shorts. (Or just go for fabric brown shorts!) Of course you need brown slouchy pants. Where you would have worn black pants, now you wear brown. Easy as that.
Brown /tweed blazer.
I have a check brown blazer from a few years ago which I will pull out again this winter but if you’re new to the blazer game I’d go for a tweed brown blazer or jacket. Giving Chanel vibes. It will joosh up everything in your wardrobe. Or just invest in a plain brown single or DB blazer. Wear over a brown knit. Keep the colours the same on top and just change out the bottoms: so blue jeans or white jean, slouchy grey or brown pants.
Brown (suede) blazer:
Prada /Miu Miu started this trend and our obsession for a suede brown jacket is till strong. It’s definitely a great piece to have in your wardrobe and is an instant wardrobe updater ! SHOP the look and Read more here.
Brown (suede) loafers/ Kitten heels.
As you know I am addicted to white shoes. They just add a pop of freshness and lighten the look of anything you wear. However I am also loving a choc brown shoe moment. Or two if you want a pair haha. Love a choc brown loafer especially with blue jeans or with slouchy camel pants. Especially with a brown blazer or knit. The shoes will pull it all together. If not loafers then grab brown ballet flats or kitten heels. See below. Buy here.
Brown suede tote bag:
Yes, you should have bought the Arket slouchy bag when I told you a few year ago, it’s still so right. I have now updated to this and I LOVE it. It’s roomy but it sits flat so doesn’t sit out too much ( like my stomach lols). A brown suede bag can be all sorts of styles: a more structured tote, a hobo something slouchy. A bag might be the only thing you buy in brown suede and that’s so fine.shop my picks here
Choc brown small bag.
I have a few choc brown bags – I sniffed out the trend a few years ago ( as you know !) and they are perfect to add a third colour to your wardrobe. White shoes and a brown bag will instantly joosh up any outfit. I was lucky to be gifted this fabulous bag from Strandbags : see below: It’s very Loewe and the leather is great quality , the colour chic and the size is just great. Good for dinner. I mean to take out to, not to eat lols. ( a bit chewy!)
Brown knee high boots.
I have been going on about knee high boots since 2017 ( and every winter since!) That’s when this idea of long skirts and long boots first appeared on the groove horizon. I now have a few knee high boots and I love them. I bought the choc brown with a little heel two winters ago and they are the best ! The good thing is you can wear with black. But also with all your camel and navy and denim. Wear with midi skirts or under your wide leg pants. With culottes/shorts. In terms of heel height of boots I love a kitten heel. Comfortable and chic. I also love flat brown knee high boots but probably not a seriously high/high heel. Looked dated now.I’d need an oxygen mask now if I was that at that height. lols Pointy or round toe ? doesn’t matter . Buy here
Brown ( suede) sneakers :
Miu Miu started the trend with their choc brown sneakers. I have these adidas brown suede sneakers from a few years ago. You wear with white jeans, wide leg long pant, with your barrel jeans and with a brown coat. With a suede blazer. With a skirt? Yes, but all the cool girls are wearing with socks. I might do that ..then again I doubt it ! If I wear flats with a midi skirt it will be ballet flats or loafers.
