Packing for your beach holiday wardrobe ? Consider it sorted !
Looking fabulous a la plage and en vacance should be easy and effortless.
Stick to low key slouchy pieces in expensive colours that love being together.
( Like you and your family) ( funny not funny!).
Start with white, ( white for summer? groundbreaking ?!) add in some neutrals, choc brown, a few dollops of khaki and maybe orange, a patch of blue and a soupcon of black. The idea is that you want to get dressed without thinking about it too much but know you look great. And when in doubt ? Default to white instead of black.
I’ve tracked down everything you need for the beach and beyond. I am not saying you need all these pieces but it’s a great checklist when you’re trying to work out what to take. .
Your summer holiday checklist !
The Rashie:
We all need a rash vest for the beach. (Sometimes my favorite sunscreen is not enough )( this one is fabulous under makeup) . Do you know about Cover Swim? Finally rashies that are fabulous and fashiony ! Yes please ! I have been looking for a plain white rashie like this. This is great too, with a zip easy to get off ! More below.
The beach cover up:
It should be chic , loose , long and easy to throw over a swimsuit. This brown dress is fabulous. Last summer I bought this stripe caftan. Love it. In large and it’s huge. Go for anything white: this is so chic ( I am not a fan of boatneck, NOT fifi approved but it’s ok for the beach, so many fab coverups here) a white shirt dress is great. Or go for a blue one, an oversized blue shirt , and here. And T shirt dress is great too. Go for orange ! ..Perfect for the beach.
The dresses ( You need more than one !)
You need three dresses: One super casual for the beach. A white one for low key drinks. One for going out. You want a maxi . Because they look great with flats = modern. effortless. Halter is great, strapless is cool and anything loose and unstructured is the way to go. Orange, brown, or white. Love Khaki ! ANd black is always right. There is something so chic about a black dress for summer. Too many good dresses this season.
Tops, tops and tops:
You need all sorts of tops on holiday. You need a blue shirt because you just do (It looks great with white!). You need a an extended shoulder tee, (I bought this) an evening top to wear with beige chinos or jeans and flats. The one shoulder top like this is everywhere and I love. Add in a slouchy white Tee. This one is great ! Love a simple tank in black and white. Ribbed. FiFi approved neckline. On repeat. Of course love a matching set but you have to be careful not to look like you’re wearing PJ’s though on holidays …thought maybe that is good ! Oh and a holiday is not a holiday without a stripe top.
The long skirt:
It’s a great alternative to a dress. A bit more laid back. Handy dot com on a holiday. It should be long. You want a fit n flare shape or full and floaty. NB: Go for a size bigger so it sits lower and doesn’t dig into the ‘situation’. You want it to look loose and relaxed , not tight and uncomfortable. Wear with a white tank or a tee. Look for a skirt in denim, black, white ( this white denim skirt!) or neutral. Brown is so chic (of course haha). Khaki is cool too. Wear with a white tank or a tee. Like this. A skirt with volume looks best with flats. But who is wearing heels on holidays?
The slouchy, barrel, wide leg pants.
Don’t go anywhere on holidays without slouchy pants. A must have for a beach holiday. Look relaxed. You will feel relaxed. They are so right for the beach, for going out, for chillaxing. Perfect with flat sandals: they look so RIGHT. Go for neutral, white or black. These ARE fabulous: get every colour .I LIVE in them. Drawstring cotton is great. These are FAB! Please pack a pair of baggy white jeans, wide leg blue jeans and camel cotton chinos : pivotal. And these denim culottes/jorts are the kind of shorts you should wear. Yes, these style bermudas are allowed. But you knew that.
The cotton knit :
This is for the Melbourne peeps, anyone in Tassie and NZ. But actually I know I wear a cotton slouchy knit quite often on a beach holiday. For those chilly summer evenings when you want to toss on something over your tee. Love anything in cream or white of course, a little beige is good too. I have this in orange and beige Thanks Uniqlo! That’s because white is so chic for summer and a heavy dark knit will look wrong . I have ordered this divine knit to wear with white jeans. And into winter. Stripe is chic too !
A casual jacket/utility vest .
May I also mention here short blue denim jacket or a denim shacket and a utility jacket. Like this. Love it . Did you nab one in black and white? SO good for a summer holiday. Love a utility vest ! Lots here. Looks casual but cool. Wear with your barrel leg chinos and any flared mid skirts. Or just double denim it !
The shoes:
There are two two types of shoes: beach shoes and chic shoes. I’m talking strappy flats, chunky sandals or love chic low heel mule. These Mesh ballerinas are the solution to holiday dressing! Low key but so fashion ! I think a low kitten heel are totally right when you need a heel on holidays. Sneakers are always good. I am loving these white euro slip on again: they are perfect summer sneakers. These white birks are THE only thing I wear to the beach. Waterproof. Chic. I am onto my third pair, LOVE. I wear every day! Love these slides, OK I will call them thongs, are so damn comfortable. And let me say that red thongs a la The ROW are deemed acceptable on holidays !
The accessories:
You want a straw /woven bag you can carry all day. A basket or a big straw totestraw tote or a raffia shoulder bag. Perfect for beach holidays. Or wherever you are going. A cute little raffia clutch ,handy too if you’re going out. A canvas tote is de rigueur for the beach. This good in orange. You need sunglasses in white or like these which I have in brown/tortoiseshell or these, you know they ARE my favourite ( on sale!), perfect with a my total neutral wardrobe. This stripe towel is so chic. A little bit of colour! Invest in a fabulous hat.I have this one : (love the wire brim , you can change it around). A bucket hat is cool but not so good for sun protection. But hey we all need a hat. Because it’s summer. And it’s holidays ! Woo hoo! ( and after writing this post I think I need one haha) x
