I’ve been looking for leather jackets lately -
Something bomber style with a Miu Miu/Prada vibe.
The search is over !

I nabbed this fabulous pleather jacket from @netaporter , it has ticks in all the boxes:

* An exaggerated, oversized cut with big shoulders ( massive!) which means it looks fashiony ( that’s the aim right?) ✔️
* A zip front gives it a sporty relaxed vibe ✔️
* A funnel neck, very on trend (which is my favorite as I’m not a fan of fussy collars )
* An elastic waist (or drop waist really!) So versatile it gives you the option to wear it different ways. Zip it up to sit on your waist or let it hang loose & undone over your bottom✔️
* It’s a rich khaki brown : it works back with blacks & browns but also with cream & khaki ✔️

Styling tips:
A big oversized jacket like this really needs to be balanced out with a narrow skirt. It’s a massive size jacket ( I’m wearing a size small : you get the idea! ). When I tried it with a full skirt there was just too much fabric. Even for me!
But a midi pencil skirt seems to be the right proportion (as are the black flares & my fav brown barrel leg jeans)

I’ve layered the jacket over a simple cream knit, but it would also work with camel or even black. A polo neck for sure. Or over a white tee.

As always a brown bag finishes the look. Black boots anchor the black skirt . And the white shoes break up the dark colours and add a little fashion edge. But you know that by now !

Everybody keep calm ( or should I say warm 😜) I have found the best winter warmers!
 You have probably already sorted your sophisticated winter coats and boots so what I’ve tracked down here are those extra little casual pieces that will really keep you toasty as well as chic : gloves, scarves, beanies, casual bags , capes, puffer jackets, barn jackets, gumboots and sneakers and everything inbetween !

Styling tips:

* Stick to chic versatile colours that go together.
Brown, khaki, camels & browns. Avoid too much black unless it has texture (also avoid bright colours!)(aging and never look expensive unless they are).

* Keep everything big & fashiony. Otherwise you will look dated and daggy. No way ! That’s not going to happen on my watch 🤣
Update proportions & the shapes modern :  Remember baggy + baggy = cool.
Baggy + neat = chic.
Neat + tight = wrong !

* Worried about looking too oversized? Balance out the tight with the loose. SO try leather leggins with a big jumper and coat. Or a neater short jacket with baggy pants.

* Use accessories to make a statement or add a dash of colour. ( khaki is a colour!) It might be fabulous gloves, a big scarf, a cute beanie, bucket hat, a sleeveless vest or a cape.

This winter it’s all about a fabulous, dramatic coat !
And I’ve been wearing this chic camel coat @lover non stop since I chose it , thank you @theiconicau .

What to look for in a coat this season?
It needs to make a statement.
Which means big sharp shoulders and extra long.
It can be double breasted or single ; just as long as it’s oversized. Or at least roomy.

How to wear it ?
Toss it over choc brown slouchy pleather pants. And a knit in the same tones of brown.
But I’ve also been wearing it with denim barrel jeans & a cream poloneck knit and loafers.

Hint : a tan designer belt and pointy white shoes break up the monotone and elevate the look.
I’m wearing a size 12 in the camel coat .

The trick ?
You need texture, shine , or exaggerated shapes.
Some kind of drama to make it exciting.
Because you sure ain’t getting the fashion edge from the colour!

Barrel jeans like these fabulous black ones from @freepeople do the trick: the cut is everything.
They make a statement which is what I’m looking for , neat in the waist but wide on the leg.

So it’s important to think about what to wear on top : you want to show off the barrel shape as well as the waist. It’s the way to create shape too. Which is why this bomber jacket @zara (from 2 winters ago!) works so well with jeans.
It’s short & cropped with big shoulders pads.
Yes , two exaggerated shapes together!

The other way to wear the barrel jeans ?
with a choc brown slouchy knit . Swipez vous 👉

styling tricks:
white pointy heels or two tone ballet flats break up the monotone of black and add a third colour.
A YSL animal print bag adds a bit of print and …colour ( enough colour for me !) but a chocolate brown shoulder bag is right too.
I’ve layered the bomber over a white tee but the weather is now freezing I’ll wear over a neat knit.

My love affair with choc Brown & grey continues!

Nabbed this gorgeous grey peacoat @arketofficial .
Love the modern oversized cut : the fabulous high funnel neck and the voluminous sleeves.
And because it’s double breasted when it’s undone it sits perfectly across “ the situation” and it looks good. I’ll add the link in stories ! I’m wearing a size 40.

I’ve styled the grey jacket with the my fav choc brown pleather pants @hm & a brown knit @uniqloau , with both white mules AND my new adidas sneakers @netaporter.

But you know what will look fabulous with a grey peacoat ? White jeans ! Can’t wait to wear it over a grey knit & with loafers. And over a chic black pencil skirt & knee high boots.

Styling tips :
* White shoes add a third color to the brown & grey and also lighten the look ( black shoes here ? Nope! (Though choc brown would be good).
* invest in classics updated into new modern shapes like a peacoat in an exaggerated cut.
* A choc brown bag works back with the pants
* No need to match bags & shoes.
* Ignore silly rules about proportions : it’s ok to wear baggy pants with an oversized jacket .

And I found some new fabulous sneakers.
(Oh and they’re on sale too. How good is that?)

These adidas sneakers are just what I was looking for: a bit retro in style, not so chunky, mainly white, but with a cool sporty stripe.
I pounced on them as soon as I spied them @netaporter. Because I knew that sneaky chestnut tan/brown stripe would go with just about everything in my wardrobe.
(if you know my wardrobe then you know what I’m talking about)( brown, tan, neutral, dollops of grey and white!)

The thing is when you stick to FiFi approved colours : it makes shopping (& dressing)(life!) so much easier. Suddenly everything works. Right ?! It’s no brainer dressing.

Let’s start with exhibit A 👉 swipe

The sneakers slide right in and work back so well with the tan Valentino belt and Demellier bag - both @netaporter.
The shoes tone in rather than match exactly & because they’re mainly white they’re lighten the look too. #FiFiapproved !

Remember sneakers don’t always have to be worn with jeans: Mais non! Swipez vous 👉 Love the look of a casual shoe with more dressed up pants, a slouchy chic sweater and a long dramatic coat or cape. Perfect for low key winter weekends.

Tip: The shoes dress down the drama of the cape or long coat & add a casual edge to the leather pants. Plus because of the brown stripe they are a perfect partner to my Gucci bag . Tick, tick, tick! Talk about versatile!

Hint : Are you going away on a European trip ?
You better pack these sneakers because apart from being chic & totally versatile they are so ridiculously comfortable.

Your winter uniform? A big coat. Long boots. I

Your winter uniform? A big coat. Long boots. It’s as easy as that. Then build an outfit around (under!) those two items with pieces that you already own. Chic pieces that just slide underneath a coat without a murmur.
Then add a fabulous designer bag and you’re done.

Let’s talk coats!
* You want a coat that’s long. Mid shin. Longer. Oversized. Go up a size if you need to. I always do.

* It can be single breasted or double breasted: just make sure it does up at the front and covers ‘the situation’. Meaning ? Make sure it sits across your front “ situation” even when it’s undone.

* You need versatile colours: Camel, navy, grey, brown, white , khaki , furry, suede or even leather.

* Walk past black. It’s not going to give you vava voom, bang for your buck. Total yawn fest. Nigh Nigh ! Can be so hard to style, it has to be VERY exaggerated to look cool.

* Everybody keep calm: if you have a long black winter coat (and I do have a few!) then surround them with tan, white and camel. Fabulous boots. Cream knits. Light wash denim. Instant chic. Default to white under there. Grey is good under it and so is a pleather skirt or pants. Welcome to my world.

* Remember big shoulders are happening. And a more tailored coat is looking new but it’s still BIG and LONG.

Everybody stop looking ! I have found the best leggings: buttery soft and so damn comfortable. Oh and they fit like a glove too.

Yes, I’m talking about the new Align No Line™ High-Rise Pant @lululemonausnz

They are designed for “yoga and casual” Let’s just say I do a lot of casual ! 😂 I have been wearing them every single day : Because once you put them on you don’t want to take them off . They feel like a second skin and kind of weightless.

What’s to love ?
* No front-rise seam (no line) gives a smooth look and feel.
* the high rise waistband lies flat and won’t dig into “ the situation “ yes, please.
* There’s a sneaky waistband pocket to hold your key or card. So handy.
* I chose the 25 inch: a great length for me and they sit above ankle.
* I am wearing a size 8USA in the colours espresso and allspice.

Styling tips;

I’m wearing the leggings with the fabulous white cinchwaist jacket @lululemonausnz . The cut is sooo good, very fashiony and I am obsessed with it.

Love the choc brown leggings with the choc brown espresso half zip sweatshirt @lululemonausnz . It’s a matching set! Adore the funnel neck, the pockets, the roomy cut. By the way a funnel neck is a huge trend for this winter. YAY

I’ve thrown the leggings back with my fav white @lululemonausnz trench (so good in the rain) and my crop puffa from last season ( buy early in the trend get years of wear).

Layer over a white tee or soft stream sweatshirt for a flash of white next to the face. ( takes years off)

The secret to wearing black & white ?
You need the fashion edge to come from the new modern shapes ( because it sure ain’t coming from the colours 😜).
And with black you need some kind of texture, shine or embellishment to add interest (so it’s not a snoozefest ).

Which is why I’m loving my new leather jacket which I nabbed a few months ago @mango. The cut is modern & slouchy and the leather adds texture.

What’s to love ?
This jacket is as soft as leather and because it’s pleather not as heavy. (it might not keep you toasty warm in winter but I live in Sydney😜)

Because it’s roomy you can easily toss it over a knit. I got a size large & the sleeves are so roomy , which means it doesn’t feel tight & it’s so comfortable.

The cut is like a double breasted crop trench rather than a tough biker jacket which I love as it’s chicer & much more versatile.

Styling tips:
A belt is optional ✔️
Go for slouchy black pants - (these are the fabulous day drift pants @lululemonau and they’re back in stock too)✔️
White shoes lighten the look ✔️
A black YSL bag keeps the colour theme tight ✔️
Add a flash of colour with @ysl animal print bag ✔️
A brown bag would not be wrong either ✔️

Note : I’ll also wear the jacket with grey jeans , with a black flirty skirt, a pencil skirt & with choc brown/tan slouchy pants.

I’m having a skirt moment . It’s because long

I’m having a skirt moment .
It’s because long sleeve dresses in winter are just too hard to find don’t you think?!
I don’t want a dress in kooky colors, frumpy florals or pesky prints obviously(!) and so all the long sleeve dresses I find in plain colours seem a bit ( how do I say?) nun like to me.
Just a bit school marm or something!!
Whereas you can have fun with a midi skirt and wear it with all sorts of knits and tops …

Don’t get mad with me but I nabbed this pleat beige pleather (pleather l!) in the @zara sale last season ! (There was just one single skirt hanging there on the sale rack- and it was in the right size) ( don’t you love that ?!)

Styling tips:

* Think about different proportions and rather than tucking in your knit , let it hang out & long over the skirt. Drop waist almost .This is a trend I noticed for next winter : Lots of long jackets with flirty skirts peeking out under.

* Add white shoes of course or when it’s really cold I’ll be pulling on knee high boots under all my midi skirts.

* When buying a pleat skirt go up a size or two so the pleats sit flat and the waist sits low and loose ! Too tight and it’s gets a bit lumpy and bumpy and way too uncomfortable.

* Love this @thefrankieshop brown knit for a few reasons but what drew me to it apart from the colour of course was the fact it has shoulder pads ( & you know how I love a shoulder pad ). How cool is that?!

I think we can all agree it’s now officially coa $I think we can all agree it’s now officially coat weather! 🥶 Yay. This makes me so happy. Goodbye summer wardrobe : hello winter layers. I can finally pull out this fabulous brown coat @frankieshop I nabbed in February @netaporter What’s to love ? * the fabulous rich chocolate brown colour . * the Big wide shoulders - seriously extra big ! * It’s Double breasted (so looks great worn open & undone) * It’s super long which I love (tho I might get it taken up a fraction)(so I can wear flats !) * The fabric is a lovely soft wool blend. Styling tips: * Layer a chic dark grey knit under the choc brown coat & brown pleather pants for the best colour pairing of the season . * Or try the same colour choc brown knit under the coat for tone on tone dressing . * On a warmer day there’s nothing wrong with a simple white tee or sweatshirt. * Love the coat with barrel jeans in every colour : grey, brown & white. Yes, blue jeans will look great too. * Think 3 colours on the body : so keep the tones of brown happening with a brown belt & any brown/tan/beige bag * And white shoes, always white shoes. * Remember default to all white under everything and you can’t go wrong. I’m wearing a size medium & it’s huge so definitely go down a size.
