It’s all about skirts this season ! Why you want them: how to wear them. #luxetoless.

What : A midi skirt.

Which : Start with a cargo skirt. With pockets.  And go for anything plain. It should be A line. It might be white. Khaki. Black or denim. Love choc brown and any neutrals. Of course. They are all FiFi approved. If you go for a straight midi skirt make sure you have side pockets. Or some kind of details like a zip fly. Otherwise it’s a snoozefest . Love cotton for summer, twill , silk or pleather going into autumn.. Linen of course is fabulous for the hot weather but not as versatile as cotton because you can’t wear it in winter.
Can we talk length ? Good. Because I am not keen on the maxi-right-down-to-the -floor skirts. Just wrong unless you’re at a black tie ball or the beach at St Barts. I think mid shin length ( whether straight or A line) works really well because you’re showing a flash of some skin at the ankle. This is good because it freshens it up. Breaks up the mass of fabric. Lightens the look. And looks appropriate when you’re out and about doing your thang. Shoes are SOO tricky with a long -to-the -ground skirt. Very hard to pull off.  But don’t be put off by the length : just buy it and get it taken up. End of story.

Why: Because a midi skirt is trans seasonal, modern and a great alternative to a dress. Because it will seamlessly slide into your wardrobe of tops and sandals. Because if you’re clever with fabric you might wear it straight into winter with boots and a sweater. Because you can take a midi skirt on summer holidays with Birkenstocks or wear in the city with heels. Because a midi skirt means you can look modern and chic and cool in summer (but still hide your legs). That’s a plus for me.

Wear: It’s about the shoes. Which is why A line is best. They love flats and heels equally. An A line midi skirt will work with sneakers, with birks, with mules or strappy sandals. Even ballet flats or Mary Janes. A straight midi pencil skirt ?So tricky to pull off with flats. I’d go a heel with a pencil skirt any day. And then once you have worked out where you’re going and what shoes are appropriate then you can get going with your choice of tops. A shoulder pad tee for every day. A tank for casual weekends. A crop jacket . A chic white statement blouse for evening. A sequin halter top. A cotton sweater on chilly summer nights.
