It’s FiFi’s Guide to summer weekend dressing.
Good news!
Looking casual and fabulous is easy. Especially when everything is (just about!) under $300 or less.
The secret?
Stick chic FiFi approved colours.
No surprises there !
These colours look expensive but don’t have to be.
Also means more versatility and more mileage from your wardrobe.
I’m talking neutrals with white and touches of blue, beige and tan. A soupcon of black.
You will look chic. Get dressed with your eyes closed.
Most importantly update the classics into new modern shapes.
And when in doubt , go up a size and then add white shoes !

  1. Stripe Long Sleeve // 2. Straw Hat // 3. White T-Shirt // 4. One Shoulder Dress // 5. Blue Shirt // 6. Sunglasses // 7. Wrap Sandals // 8. White Maxi Dress// 9. Velodrome Sunglasses // 10. Denim Skirt // 11. Navy Sneakers // 12. Bucket Bag // 13. Wide Leg Pants // 14. Basket Tote// 15.  White Cargo Pants  //16. Buckle Sandals // 17. Stripe Dress

The simple toss on dress:
It should be chic , loose , long and easy to throw on. It could be in navy, white, khaki or neutral. Black is chic of course ( I bought this and love it). And this tunic ( bought it 2 sizes bigger ) or T shirt dress. I love this one for the beach. All perfect to toss over a swimsuit or swan around the house looking chic and low key with birks and a smudge of lipgloss.

The low key going out dress.
Look for relaxed shape, pockets ( yes!) a fit and flare shape . It might be stretchy (comfort is everything). Go for a one shoulder dress ( white !) , a halter dress (love this one) , strapless column or a tiered dress. Yes, in orange ! Whatever shape : it needs to be long at least midi. Oh and a jumpsuit is always low key chic for relaxed evenings too (Love this navy one). Wear with flats, flats and flats.

The wide linen pants:
De rigueur for the weekend. Update them to even wider this season! You want glamorous wide leg palazzo pants. In white or neutral. ( I have these: go up a size!)Black of course. Linen tops looks great with linen pants (Like this: It’s called a set !) (they are supposed to crush!) or try wide leg pants with a simple white cotton tank or shirt. Add chunky sandals.

The White statement/wide sleeve top:
Better than a plain white tee. More flattering, not clingy, easier to wear on its own. The sleeves add vavavoom and give good arm coverage . Give the illusion of slim arms ( that’s my story and I’m sticking to it !) . You will wear it every day. Get in black and in several sizes. Wear on repeat. Looks great with everything from a long full skirt to baggy pants and jeans. Want a long puff sleeve white Tee? I have been living in this one.

A stripe top and knit. Who doesn’t love a stripe? The best way to get print into your wardrobe ( the only print you will see here!) . Love a stripe dress. But everyone needs a slouchy relaxed long sleeve Tee ( or these Kule are the best!) or a this fab stripe shirt with big sleeves ..or invest in a stripe knit to toss on chilly summer nights.

Beige/camel chinos
Not black pants but just as chic. Not jeans but just as casual. These are great and these too in a light beige.  Cargoes are great too. They look fabulous with strappy sexy heels or white dad sandal. With a stripe tee. A white shirt. They are key to your summer wardrobe.

The long midi skirt:
It should be A line and midi length. Why? Because a straight long skirt is so hard to style with flats. A flirty A line skirts looks great with a white Tee or a simple tank. Go for a big size bigger skirt so it sits lower and doesn’t dig into the ‘ situation’. You want it to look loose and relaxed . Nothing tight and uncomfortable. White is very Prada, black is always chic and so camel ( this is fabulous) Denim is good. So is khaki.

The summer neutral sweater.
You need this when it get chilly at night ..I bought this Arket sweater in brown in winter and LOVED it…was thrilled to find it again in grey ( so chic with white jeans in summer) It’s the perfect neck and length. Wore it all through last summer ( In Melbourne !) when it got chilly. Love this knit on sale and this one here.

A waistcoat : It’s a great way to wear a set: Matching a skirt or pants to the vest. It’s also a great alternative to a dress. Actually probably more flattering than a dress as it creates a waist. I’ll go separates any day as they are much more versatile. Wear the waistcoat with pants, jeans or a skirt.

Shorts:
Can we talk shorts? I won’t be wearing anything short. And I won’t be wearing any shorts with flats. In a casual way. What I will be wearing are knee length Bermuda shorts. Culottes. In cotton. Linen. Pleather. denim . Always with heels. It’s a more sophisticated way to wear shorts. (If you feel you have the legs to show off then short shorts are great for casual weekends).

White/Blue wide leg Jeans:
Crucial to your summer holiday. Wide leg. High waist. In white. Light blue. Dark denim. Everyone says these are the best. They keep restocking ! Get in all colours. Surely you got the wide leg memo ?? The thing is: If you update to high waist , wide leg jeans and tuck in the top, suddenly those old tops look modern..

The bag:
Nothing chicer than a simple straw bag: Perfect for casual weekends. Adds texture. The colours work with neutrals. Go an extra big size. Or invest in a canvas tote bag like this one .  Love this chic straw tote .

The shoes:
When in doubt pull on white shoes. If you hate thongs (such as my good self ) best to grab white Birkenstocks, the most comfortable shoes ever invented, or plain cream fabric ones, I LOVE them. Invest in neutral dad sandals because they instantly add a fashion edge to everything you own. No joke. I suggest a white mule with a small heel : always a good idea. Casual but still a bit jooshy. And classic Bensimon sneakers are the best !
