Good news!
You have a new best friend for summer.
Say hello to the latest item du jour…
A waistcoat.  A sleeveless jacket. A vest.
Call it when you like – I call it cool. It’s a great piece for summer.
An instant wardrobe joosher…And I will be wearing one !

What’s to love?
It’s a new exciting shape so instantly updates your old pieces .
It’s tailored so it gives good shape.
Meaning that it is more flattering than a sloppy flimsy white tee that shows everything. The vest skims over the bits. Doesn’t cling. Instantly gives you shape …even you don’t have it.
The tailoring and sharp cut adds polish to any outfit.
It does the same thing as a jacket – except the bare arms make it much more warm weather appropriate. You have your own inbuilt air con on warmer days. Love that !

Which one to choose?
Choose any colour as long as it’s white, beige, grey  or black ! Ha.
I love the sleeveless jacket like this or this fabulous one in white.
But you can also go for a black one like this ( I bought it!)
(Hint: black looks best in summer because the flash of skin lightens it up).
I am loving the waistcoat style: I’ll be pulling out my white linen vest and matching pants again this summer.

How to wear it?
With pants. With jeans. Slouchy chinos. White pants. Black pants. Camel pants.
If you do go for a skirt it should be full and long.  (No short pencil skirts ).
Make sure skirts and pants are high waisted so they sit under the bottom of the waistcoat.
No flashing of scary muffin for me. Yikes !
A sleeveless jacket is a great alternative to a blazer if you want more coverage.
It should probably have wide shoulders ( shoulder pads are great!).
and should be long so it covers the top of thigh.
I’d wear the longer sleeveless jacket with slouchy pants or a pleat skirt with flats.
Best thing is that this is the perfect piece to wear to the office.
Don’t want to show your arms?
Please don’t cry.
Just toss on a short sleeve white tee under any of these vests.
( a white shirt under it = like a uniform)( or swashbuckling Pirate)( which is fine if you want that look)( you don’t !)
I will probably toss a tight white tank under a waistcoat to over the cleavage area.
And you could easily toss a trench over the top if you’re chilly. Of course.
(Rather than a blazer which can be a bit too contrived and hard to carry off.)
There are so many street style ideas below to give you ideas.
