Florence Pugh’s Radical Self-Acceptance #VOGUE

How Florence Pugh became Hollywood’s most grounded superstar.
She chats to Vogue about her latest movie. She is very funny in this video, full of personality and seems to be able to cook (!).

On vowing to never lose weight for a role:

“I’m never losing weight to look fantastic for a role. It’s more like: How would this character have lived? What would she be eating?

On finally buying a home in London and settling down there:

“For years…it made no sense for me to rent a place in London because I was barely ever coming home. I was always literally going from one job to the other. You know, you have a daydream when you start out: What is it that means you’ve made it? What is it that means you are an adult? And for me it was: You live close to your friends and you have a local pub…for all of my adult years of working and my adult years living abroad, I still, in my mind, [I] hadn’t got all the pieces together.”

On wanting to do live theater soon one day:

“Being onstage is a different thing, because you’re in front of people who need to be entertained now.… And I know that when I do a play, it’s going to mean a different thing. Whereas if I’d done it five years ago, not as many people would’ve come. I suppose the more time that I’ve avoided it, the more the pressure builds.”

On wearing a see-through ( hot pink !) dress at the Valentino Haute Couture fashion show in July 2022 in Rome.

“I’ve never been scared of what’s underneath the fabric. If I’m happy in it, then I’m gonna wear it. Of course, I don’t want to offend people, but I think my point is: How can my nipples offend you that much? It’s very important that we do this. I know that some people might scoff at me saying that, but if a dress with my breasts peeking through is encouraging people to say, ‘Well, if you were to get raped, you would deserve it,’ it just shows me that there’s so much more work to do.”

On cooking:
“When I get home, I really need to get back to my usual self—so I will always cook myself dinner.” Pugh’s decompression meal typically includes what she calls her “garlicky crostini,” a toasted-bread appetizer with garlic, feta, coriander, chili, and tomato pulp (oh, and anchovies— although only, Pugh clarifies, if you enjoy them). ( Which are all thing I LOVE eating!).

In a video for Vogue, Pugh gives us step-by-step instructions on how to make the recipe. Okay, not quite step by step—the actor, for example, doesn’t remember the precise temperature the oven should be, but she wings it. “I always like making a few mistakes because, to me, that’s where the best food comes from”.
