Leather in every shape & style: It’s pivotal to your winter wardrobe. #luxetoless
Leather. Pleather. Faux leather. Vegan leather.
Whatever you call it, it’s something you need – pivotal- in your wardrobe.
It’s perfect for this wintry cold weather and it always, always looks cool.
The good news is that leather now comes in all shapes and forms.
Skirts! Shorts! Shackets! Shirts! Wide leg Pants! Jackets!
what’s to love about (P)leather ?
- It doesn’t need ironing !
(The one reason I have pleather pants on repeat: so easy to get dressed). - Leather is the quickest way to add vava voom and a sneaky fashiony edge to your wardrobe.
- Whatever age or shape you are, it works.
- I prefer pleather as it is lighter and easier to wear than leather sometimes: more transeasonal too
- Leather is the best way to way to wear black. Which can be boring and dull if the black fabric is a big YAWN.
- Leather goes from work to weekend and also great for travel. I wore pleather pants on the plane to Paris last year,
( got changed into leggings but the thing about pleather is that it doesn’t really crush either ). - So damn versatile I’d wear leather pants out to dinner at night with heels or for a casual day in the country .
- Best of all: Totally easy to clean (I am a dufus who spills everything!)( just wipe clean )
Styling tips:
- Anything tight looks too try hard. Dated. Keep leather baggy and slouchy, tight = tacky (except leggings).
- Stick to one piece of leather, it can get too flashing Britney /Las Vegas head to toe. Yikes
- Toss on lots of volume on top when wearing tighter leather leggings or a skirt.
- If you’re wearing a big leather jacket then try neater pants/skirts if you feel like you’re overwhelmed.
- Don’t worry about different textures: it’s good to mix wool, silk, cotton with leather.
- Stick to dark colours: white leather can look scary and cheap dot com right?
- But add white/cream boots, white mules, white sneakers to lighten it up.
- Go for leather in a roomy, easy cut. Oversized. Slouchy. Go up a size.
- You don’t have to go for black leather although they are the most flattering and versatile.
Go for choc brown or camel or khaki green. And I have added a few suede jackets too ( below) like this fabulous brown suede number from Theiconic and this one from ASOS.. BTW more suede jackets here
What to buy and how to wear it:
A leather jacket :
Go for choc brown or black. Try a big oversized leather jacket with a pencil skirt or baggy chinos. Yes it will go with denim jeans of course but think outside the box. Try something more unexpected. Mix up fabrics, mix up the textures.
NB: Avoid leather biker jackets: Unless you’re a model. They’re too tough looking, too tricky to style, not versatile. I have this one which is like a crop trench and absolutely love this one which is a bomber. ( no kooky zips and studs!) and a blazer style leather jacket is so chic like this one.
A leather shirt or shacket .
Grab a leather shirt and layer it like a shacket over a tee or rib knit with jeans. It’s such a cool look. Or if it’s a neat shirt tuck into baggy jeans. Also love this leather Tee, will look great with chinos and baggy jeans. So many good leather pieces here at St Agni.
Wide leg leather pants.
Invest in leather wide pants in black or brown. Wear a check oversized blazer with sneakers. With a big coat and mules. With a slouchy knit and loafers. With a pretty blouse and heels for dinner. With a parka and flats boots for weekends.
A leather skirt.
It should be midi (or mini if you think you have the legs ) in a ALine shape. In black or brown. Style it with a big oversized sweater and a short peacoat. With a rib knit and a big coat. Go for knee high boots. I have even worn a leather skirt in the spring with a white tee.
Hint:
If your pleather pants are too long – and you haven’t paid a fortune- I have been known to get out the scissors and cut off the hem ( see here my khaki pleather from H&M on here). Easy.
BTW I’ve been talking about leather pants here on The FiFi Report since 2014.
It was actually waaay back in 2011 when I first laid eyes on THE most divine leather track pants in the Celine show.
That’s the thing. Fashion actually moves slowly. If you get in on the trend early you can get years of wear.
(Don’t worry! I am here to tell you immediately about a new trend as soon as I sniff it out).
