What : A Denim midi skirt.
Which: You want black, white or blue denim. Light denim or dark denim An A line shape. Midi length. At least over the knee like this. Note: I am not keen on those maxi straight denim skirts with a split. Avoid at all costs. I know they are out there. SO hard to wear. They’ve got trouble written all over them! Why? it’s the shoes situation. And front splits?. Very tricky. It takes great styling to carry it off. But if you buy one in that maxi long length and you love the cut then it’s easy to get the skirt taken up to mid shin or at least where you think it’s right.
Why: Because a A line denim skirt is as easy as jeans – but it’s a skirt ! Because they are casual but cool. Totally versatile. Like jeans a denim skirt can get jooshed up with a heel and pretty top. Or wear with flats and a tee. Because it’s nice to wear a skirt. Because they are so damn cool. Will go from winter straight into spring = good cost per wear. I have been living in my white COS denim skirt.
Wear: For right now in cool (spring ish!) weather a denim skirt loves and adores knee high boots and a knit ( front tuck !) ( see this post from March ). With a short jacket . Like a crop trench or bomber jacket. Or a short utility jacket. Creates a waist where the top of the skirt meets jacket. Please no gaps between hem of skirt and top of boots. The skirt must sit over the boots. In terms of shoes? You could wear Mary Janes or pointy kitten sling backs. (With socks). (It’s a thang.) Platform brogues. Sneakers with a big oversized coat.
Going into spring summer? Or perhaps going on a hot holiday then try a denim skirt with a shoulder pad tee and chunky flats. Or with a white tank and silver heels. These skirts go from day to evening ; Add a chic designer bag and diamanté earrings or a cuff and you’re out the door.
