Thought it was time ( & the weather !) for a skirt Thought it was time ( & the weather !) for a skirt. Nabbed this gorgeous camel pleat skirt @cosstores_au a couple of seasons ago. It’s one of those pieces that goes from summer to winter and just works across the seasons For this warm weather: I’ve styled it with my new camel knit Tee @uniqloau , the tones/colours are so right together and look fab with strappy brown suede mules. Styling trick : the white bucket bag adds a third colour & breaks up the camel neutral tones. Another way I’ve worn the knit tee is with my fav barrel jeans @zara and brown toe flat sandals @theiconicau . The point ? All these pieces work effortlessly and easily together whether new and old or from different seasons. That’s because I think carefully about every new piece I buy & stick to a very strict colour palette. Discipline baby !! It’s about classic versatile colours updated in modern shapes . You won’t see kooky colours, frumpy florals or pesky prints here ! Too tricky, too aging , too troublesome, dated and they never look expensive unless they are ! Is it a coat ? Is it a trench ?! The woven twill Is it a coat ? Is it a trench ?! The woven twill fabric has the look of a coat but the belted silhouette and epaulettes says TRENCH to me. Who cares 😜 it’s a fabulous piece On SALE from The Frankie Shop @netaporter & it’s so right to wear now & all the way into winter. The thing is I don’t have anything like it in my wardrobe. OK, mmm maybe I have a million taupe /beige trenchcoats but this one is different as it’s not a raincoat. And that’s my story and I am sticking to it ! Haha. All I know is that If I’m going to spend money it’s going to be on coats , blazers ( outerwear !) or a designer handbag. Why ? You get more bang for your buck. And when you buy quality it can take the thrashing and the repeat wear. Which is why I pounced on this coat. What appeals to me ; * The luxe twill fabric, which works across the seasons ( I.e it’s not a heavy winter coat). * The chic versatile colour slides effortlessly into my current wardrobe. * The big shoulders are so cool. * Love the fact that I can wear it now & into autumn with white jeans & a white tee ( hint: when in doubt default to all white under everything !) then into winter over a cream knit with brown jeans and my leather pants. The missing link in your wardrobe ? The ‘easyfiv The missing link in your wardrobe ? The ‘easyfive low rise classic pants’ @lululemonanz Almost jeans, almost pants they seem to suit any occasion. Day to evening. Work to weekends. Versatile with a capital V . Once you put them on you won’t want to take them off !   What’s to love : The colour ! It’s that stone/cream/concrete colour that is so chic & versatile. (called downtown tan). Throw any colour at these pants & they’ll be happy to be there. From white to cream to neutrals, brown, black or khaki ✔️ The feel !
Soft and so comfortable, stretchy. In a cotton blend twill which means they are hold their shape with a little structure ( as opposed to floppy)( no thank you !). They skim but don’t cling. And look sophisticated ✔️ The wide leg !
It’s a modern, longer, looser cut with a cool wide leg. Also love the mid/low rise waist, they’re neat around the hips with volume in the leg✔️ Styling tips: I’ve layered a white tee under the dark brown tee. Both from @lululemonausnz . It’s a nifty layering trick ✔️ Roll up the sleeves so you can see the white peeking out ✔️ It’s a clever way to add a third colour & lightens up the look. Or grab the lightweight funnel neck jacket @lululemonausnz Which is almost sheer. Add heels or flats . Did you nab one of these fabulous knit tees @uniql Did you nab one of these fabulous knit tees @uniqloau ? Hope you did ! The best tops; Both brown & the white are on high rotation in my wardrobe. On repeat ! What’s not to love about a tee that doesn’t really need ironing ? Gotta love that. What’s not to love about a tee that’s roomy but structured ( doesn’t cling, holds its shape!). The sleeves? Perfect. They’re loose & wide and stop at the elbow. Look generous and therefore chic and effortless. ( the aim of the game !). And can we talk about the length of the tee? Soooo good as you don’t need to tuck it in, (tho you could ) and it just sits in the right spot. The other most worn and loved piece in my wardrobe this season are these barrel leg pants also @uniqloau - I’ve got in 5 colours ! One for almost every day of the week . Haha These barrel pants & the knit tees are the missing basics you need in your life: updated classics in totally modern shapes ! Cannot recommend highly enough and of course the prices @uniqloau are ridiculous! Tops tops tops ! I’m always looking for fabulous Tops tops tops ! I’m always looking for fabulous tops. And I know you are too … Because tops are the key to tabletop dressing : It’s about keeping all the attention on top of the body such as a statement top (where everyone is looking ), and keeping wardrobe staples like pants or shorts in plain colours (under the table!) ( no one is looking there or at your knees 😜) This white top is a winner from @morrisonclothing . Cap sleeves ( love a wide extended shoulder) ✔️ A wrap tie front so it can as tight or loose as you like. This is good. ✔️ 100% cotton ✔️ I’m wearing the top with those fabulous slouchy choc brown pants ( I nabbed last year @theiconicau )(now on sale ), it’s a bit of summer with winter. It’s a bit of loose with tight . Another way to wear the top : Obviously with jeans, but it also works with these chic black Bermuda shorts , also in a soft 100 % cotton @morrisonclothing . FiFi philosophy! Don’t compromise looking modern FiFi philosophy! Don’t compromise looking modern by trying to look slim. You’ll end up looking neither. Meaning ? Time and again I hear women say about slouchy clothes “I can’t wear that, it makes me look bigger”. So? Who cares if you look bigger ? Looking slim is not the end game! And when you think about it the word “ flattering” is really just another word for slim right ? Personally I’d rather look modern & chic than worry about whether something will make me look slimmer. This is what happens : when you try to style something in an effort to make it flattering /slimming quite often ( not always !) it will not look modern. And you won’t look smaller either. You end up in no man’s land looking neither slim nor modern. My advice : own it & just wear the damn fashion ! When you start trying new shapes & silhouettes your eye changes and suddenly you get used to new proportions. It’s about updating the classics and embracing the fashion & the new ways of styling. Whatever age or shape you are. The thing is : ALL those ridiculous rules about dressing for your shape are all based on the idea of looking slimmer ! And the problem with those so called “figure fixer” rules? They CHANGE. Because fashion changes. ( that’s why we love it) Please do not hold on to those old fashioned rules about what suits you ! They’re not set in stone. No wonder you’re struggling to get dressed! In my opinion looking slimmer is not the aim. Looking modern & chic is what I’m interested in. Right now it’s about : Baggy + baggy = Yes Baggy + neat = cool Neat + neat = wrong Of course getting dressed is about feeling great so please wear what you feel good in ! For me I FEEL great in Farshun & feel modern in new silhouettes whether they’re slimming or not . So please stop compromising looking modern by trying to look slim : you’ll end up looking neither. But the most important item for next season? A leather bomber jacket. In choc brown. Oooh la la I love it ! Talk about instant wardrobe updater. Answers below please 👇 Why you want this fabulous jacket ; * It’s work to weekend : Looks casual with jeans & ballet flats but totally chic with a skirt & heels. * The cost per wear is super tremendous ! * The sleeves are major and give BIG shoulders & I am here for it. * The high strand up funnel neck collar is the chicest : always been my favourite ( it’s trending) (if that means anything?!) . * Love the rib knit detail on the collar, cuffs and hem. Gives it a sporty feel. * Fabulous colour : Olive brown is incredibly versatile and will go with all FiFi approved colours. Styling tips: * Style it with high waist pieces so they meet and have a party in the middle (high waist skirt, jeans and slouchy pants & jeans ). Shows off your waist , even when you don’t have one , creating shape in otherwise oversized pieces. * I’ve styled it over a white tee but in the chilly weather I will layer it over a knit . * Think three colours on the body so white, grey and choc for example. * Would I wear this jacket over a dress? Yes, probably with a fit n flare dress in the same tones , with knee high boots. I am wearing large, it’s big , could almost have got a medium ! They have a use by date. You can’t keep wearing them forever. The cut, the shoulder, lapel, collar, waist , the shape of the sleeve, the length : it all dates ! Solution ? Update these wardrobe staples into new, modern shapes. ( every few years !) That’s if you want to look modern. Chic. Cool. Effortless. Hint: you do ! What’s new in a white tee ? It’s loose, oversized, roomy with a square cut. The fabric can be quite structured ( doesn’t cling, holds its shape!). The sleeves are wide and long. I ordered them thinking “ I do not need another pair of jeans” But when I put them on ; fabulous! A straight leg is looking cool right now, with a neat high waist. Love this blue wash. Longer length. Black & white ! The trick with wearing plain bloc Black & white ! The trick with wearing plain block colours? With wearing black & white ? Exaggerated shapes! The silhouette is what’s making a statement. you’re getting your fashion edge from the styling and interesting cut. Because you sure ain’t getting it from kooky colours. I’m talking about a white blazer and black pants : two pieces that could be boring and a snoozefest if not updated into new modern shapes . The white jacket : has big sharp shoulders & a strong architectural cut. Anything with big shoulders is cool The pants : slouchy & balloon leg ( loving the sporty vibe of balloon pants atm) ( so this is NOT a tight short shrunken blazer , & NOT skinny short pants)( so out they will be back in soon)(joking not joking ) You can also wear the blazer casually with jeans and slouchy camel pants & mules. And the balloon pants can be dressed down & also look great with flat sandals and a sporty jacket. Swipez vous !
