Bermuda shorts – to the knee – this summer are looking totally right.
The trick ? Add heels. Because these are city shorts.A chic sophisticated alternative to a summer skirt. They’re not beach shorts. OK ?

Why you want them:  Because they are modern and chic.
Because they feel new ( how good is that!).
Versatile as pants but much cooler when it gets hot.
You get the benefit of a summery skirt but with the practicality of pants.
And the single piece that will inject a little cool and edge into your wardrobe. We all need that right?

Styling tips;  Go a size bigger so they sit lower on the waist. And then they are longer in length.
Wear bermudas with a white tank and a slouchy long blazer. A sleeveless vest is totally chic with shorts.
Try with a bomber jacket or a crop trench which both sit on the waist. They give good shape. A cotton blue ( or denim) shirt tucked into shorts always looks chic..

Shoes?
Wear with mules, strappy sandals and pointy kitten heels. You need heels as a general rule to edge height and sophistication. Choosing the right flats is tricky. But if you feel confident then go for loafers or pointy white flats.
Dad sandals? You might look like tourist going on hike. haha.

I don’t need another crop trench.
Said no one ever !
If you’ve been following me for a while now you know I have a serious trench addiction ( tried trench rehab : did not work!)
Doesn’t matter if it’s long or short or cropped or raincoat: I’m obsessed with trenchcoats .
And I’m ok with that. It means I know my style.

Had my eye on this crop trench from @cosstores_au and I showed great discipline…ha..until it went on sale @theiconicau

It’s like a summery light jacket: it’s something you’d grab instead a cardigan on a summer’s night. ( a crop cardigan ? Not FiFi approved, shapeless & frumpy) .

This crop trench is only available in one size which I love : it’s dramatic and oversized so it fits every one. And because it’s cropped it’s perfect with a high waist skirt : I’ve tossed it back with my choc brown @matteau skirt I nabbed last year from @davidjonesstore .

What makes it modern is the new play on shapes & proportions : a longer straight skirt with a voluminous short jacket.

The skirt is fab because it works across seasons & I’ll wear it in winter with brown knee high boots & a knit ( oh and trench of course !)

Styling tips :
The white mules lighten the look , break up the neutrals.
The brown Valentino @netaporter belt elevates both the skirt & the low key cotton casual jacket.
My two favorite bags right now in brown & tan tone in but don’t need to match the shoes @demellierlondon & @gucci

And can we talk about this perfectly cut black tank, the sensational cream jacket and those groovy new sneakers ?!

They’re my picks this month from @lululemonausnz and I’m obsessed.

What I love about all these pieces ( apart from the fantastic quality) is the versatility. I chose all of them because I know I’ll wear all 3 items of clothing in lots of different ways.
Not just activewear or for exercise: Mais non !
I’ll wear each of these items every day summer to winter.

The shiny satin tights ( also in delicious choc brown) are going to be so chic with an oversized knit , a slouchy coat & loafers in winter. I’m wearing a size 10 USA ( go up a size !)

The crew neck black tank - You can wear it long with leggings (& cover your bum ) but it’s also easy to tuck it in too. So I’ve also styled it with my black Bermudas and heels. 👉Swipe. It’s definitely a wardrobe essential for summer.

The Repell Shell rain jacket ( in bone !) is so chic & incredibly well designed. The cut is so cool with the exaggerated shape, big sleeves, a cinch back & a dip hem. Totally modern & so right . And waterproof. Yes !
I’ll wear it over the leggings and the tank of course but also with @lululemonausnz slouchy beige pants & white tee/ knit in winter 👉 swipe ( I’m completely obsessed with the jackets @lululemonausnz. Their design is so well thought out. Every detail is clever , practical AND chic.)
I’m wearing a size 10 usa.

These cool black & white sneakers are new @lululemonausnz Oh my god so comfortable .
Come winter I’ll wear with black slouchy pleather pants and a grey oversized knit , plus trench too of course.

It’s Shoesday !

So thought I’d share some of my favorites I’ve been wearing this summer. On repeat.

1. Black mules from @atmosandhere @theiconicau
Love the kitten heel. Surprisingly comfortable. Casual yet chic. Perfect when you want a heel but don’t want to look too dressed up. Summery. Low key. Wear with shorts & midi skirts . Crop white jeans & a black shoulder pad tee.

2. Tkees in white @tkees
The only thongs I will ever wear. Love the square toe too. Go for white. Wear with wide leg jeans & linen pants. Or a kaftan.
Good for holidays or the beach or lying by the pool.

3. White mesh ballet flats @jomercershoes
Chic. Comfortable. The mesh means your feet are never too hot. Breezy. You can see your nail polish! Wear with wide leg slouchy pants or with a A line midi camel skirt.

4. White wedge heels @mango
When you need a heel you can walk in. Sometimes a strappy sandal is all you need to add joosh & a little more sophistication to your lewk. White of course !

5. Brown mules @jomercershoes @thedom_au
Love a mule, essentially with a square toe. Especially with a low kitten heel. Casual but also sophisticated. Comfortable. Easy. Brown is a good alternative to white. Wear with blue jeans & white chinos or with Bermuda shorts.

6. White flat sandals @jomercershoes
Black & white is chic but also dramatic. Chunky but not too clumpy. When you want a casual shoe but still fashiony and polished. Great with long midi skirts or a floaty shirt dress.

This chilly weather is ok with me .
It means I get to wear my two fav things : jeans & a blazer .

Updated into new modern shapes of course !

Right now I’m loving baggy barrel leg jeans ( as you may have guessed!) and a blazer with big sharp shoulders.

I nabbed this fabulous white blazer last year from @cosstores_au because I love the strong shoulders and the almost exaggerated shape.
Plus the sleeves have their own inbuilt elastic which means you can push them up & they stay in place : genius !

These jeans are @zara from a few months ago : can’t stop wearing them ! I bought a size bigger so they are slouchy & sit lower. So damn comfortable too.

Styling tips :
* Stick to the same colours on top : so a white blazer over a white tee - this applies to grey & grey , khaki & khaki, camel & camel etc ( it’s a FiFi philosophy I’ve been talking about for years !)( so easy to do).
* White mules work back with the blazer & lighten the look. Black shoes here ? Too dark .
* A neutral bag like this taupe YSL clutch adds a third colour , doesn’t match but tones in.
* Tuck in your tee to create shape.
* No need for a belt , keep it simple .

Start with white, ( white for summer? groundbreaking ?!) add in some neutrals, choc brown, a few dollops of khaki, maybe orange, a patch of blue and a soupcon of black.

The idea is that you don’t want to think about it too much - get dressed with your eyes closed in five minutes flat - but know you look great.

The fashion edge is coming from the drama in the cut & the new ways of styling. Who said you need kooky colours, pesky prints or frumpy florals to look chic ?

The best thing about updating classics into new modern shapes: You just put them on, you’re out the door.
These pieces look instantly chic.
No need to fluff, tweak, joosh or add lots accessories. Because these pieces don’t need any help. They just look great dot com. They hold their own. Make a statement.

Which means easy, effortless no brainer dressing !
And isn’t that what we all want from our wardrobes?!

Styling tricks:
Roll up the hem of the jeans, shorter is better in summer.
A choc brown or camel bag will break up the monotone.
No need to tuck your tee when it’s in a sturdy fabric.
Mix cream & white , like a silver & gold it’s an old rule !

This fabulous white ‘scuba’ tee is from last year @arketofficial and the jeans are a few seasons old from @cosstores_au . The mules ? They’re new & a total dupe of @loewe @tonybianco ( and on sale ! I might get the choc brown too as so comfortable and totally right !)

Relaxed party dressing . It’s about being chic

Relaxed party dressing . It’s about being chic, slightly dressed up but looking effortless. Feeling relaxed. You don’t want to look too overdressed or too try hard !
This is not black tie but it’s not beach dressing either. It might be drinks, BBQ, dinner or a New Year’s party .

The secret :  Table top dressing. Which is how you dress from the waist up. You want the attention and focus on top of the body (everything else is hidden under the table!) 
Which is why I nabbed this fabulous Marant Etoile silver top from @netaporter (It’s on sale and I could not resist. )

Yes, it’s very dramatic with those huge shoulders (!) and the glamorous shimmery fabric BUT the shape is actually really just a relaxed simple tee shirt.
Because when you have rich luxe fabrics you don’t need frills, flounces or anything too tricky in the design. Keep it simple so there is only one element that is getting all the attention.

The trick with any sparkly statement top?  Dress it down with casual low key pants !
I’m talking jeans, cotton chinos or slouchy pants. Think contrasts. It’s the DNA of effortless chic: tough with pretty, casual and dressy, with soft and hard. It’s the modern chic way to dress don’t you think?

So I decided to style this fabulous silver top @netaporter with white grey jeans. Then with grey jeans . I couldn’t decide!

A question I am often asked: What are good travel pants? Also what to wear on the plane? Also Help , I am going overseas what to pack ?

Everybody stop looking ! I have found the best travel outfit & it’s all from @lululemonausnz (including bag and sneakers).

Let’s start with this sensational grey jacket @lululemonausnz  Love and adore a balloon sleeve. Totally day to evening.
The fabric is very glamorous almost silky. Especially in sophisticated grey. (Big colour for next season too!)

You’ll wear this grey jacket with a white tee & black pants but also with jeans & leggings. Going out to a gallery, lunch or maybe dinner ? Toss it on over a cashmere knit with black pleather pants or skirt with heels and a clutch.

It’s THE perfect travel jacket: It has a zippered pocket with a hidden phone sleeve (YES!). Water resistant it has a sneaky hood that sits inside the collar. And the waist cinches in so you can create shape when you need to.

Please nab these fabulous @lululemonausnz black pants!  Super chic & so damn soft & comfortable you won’t want to take them off. (you won’t if you’re on a 24 hour flight !)
( My travel tip: throw the grey leggings in your carryon and change into them to sleep on the plane) Side pockets : Yes ! Elastic waistband : Yes ! Breathable : Yes ! Machine washable : Yes !
 I am obsessed with this black bag @lululemonausnz ,quite incredible for the price ($189!!)( whaaaat?) Love the clever exterior sleeve that sits over your carryon trolly handles. Yes ! It has a removable, adjustable shoulder strap & a sneaky top quick-access phone pocket . The generous size fits a 16″ laptop but will easily go in the overhead locker or under the seat.

While you’re in @lululemonausnz grab an extended shoulder white tee, some sneakers and a belt bag ( ordered this in grey to match my lewk) Essential for travel. But you know that !

FiFi philosophy!
Don’t compromise looking modern by trying to look slim. You’ll end up looking neither.

Meaning ?

Time and again I hear women say about slouchy clothes “ I can’t wear that, it makes me look bigger”. So? Who cares if you look bigger ?

Looking slim is not the end game!

And when you think about it the word “ flattering” is really just another word for slim right ?

Personally I’d rather look modern & chic than worry about whether something will make me look slimmer.

Because what happens is when you will try to style something to make it flattering /slimming quite often ( not always !) it will not be modern. And you won’t look smaller either. You end up in no man’s land looking neither slim nor modern.

My advice : own it & just wear the damn fashion !

When you start trying new shapes & silhouettes your eye changes and suddenly you get used to new proportions.
It’s about updating the classics and embracing the fashion & the new ways of styling.
Whatever age or shape you are.

The thing is : ALL those ridiculous rules about dressing for your shape are all based on the idea of looking slimmer !

And the problem is those so called “figure fixer” rules CHANGE. Because fashion changes. ( that’s why we love it)
And women hold on to those old fashioned rules.
But they’re not set in stone.
No wonder you’re struggling to get dressed!

In my opinion looking slimmer is not the aim.
Looking modern & chic is what I’m interested in.

Right now it’s about :
Baggy + baggy = Yes
Baggy + neat = cool
Neat + neat = wrong

Of course getting dressed is about feeling great so please wear what you feel good in !
For me I FEEL great in Farshun & feel modern in new silhouettes whether they’re slimming or not .

So please stop compromising looking modern by trying to look slim : you’ll end up looking neither.

It’s the season for skirts .
Perfect for summer : it’s easy, simple dressing.

One of my favorite skirts is this white denim skirt from @cosstores_au last year. Love it. The white denim means it’s as casual as jeans but the shape is as effortless as a dress. Toss a utility vest over a white tee, pull on white strappy heels and you’re good to go !

As you can see (Swipez vous 👉) I have a bit of a skirt uniform . (Why not ? It means you know your own style! )

It’s pretty clear I tend to gravitate to A line skirts, a shoulder pad tee and some kind of strappy ( usually white !) sandal.
All these outfits are just variations of a theme. ( some are from a few years ago)( I’ll still be wearing them again this season !)( yes, I actually WEAR my own wardrobe!)

The styling trick ?
Keep it simple !
Stick to “expensive” colours in modern shapes: we’re talking skirts that are now midi, A line wrap or pleated. A tee with big shoulders. A top with cutaway shoulders. Oversized or with a roomy cut. In black or white.
No need for crazy kooky colours or mad accessories.
Because when you update to new modern shapes the clothes do all hard work for you. They instantly look chic & effortless. You don’t need to fuss & joosh & fluff around trying to make it work. You just put on a skirt & a tee, slide into heels : done.
You’re out the door.
