Shorts ! Just as easy as pants , as cool as a ski

Shorts !
Just as easy as pants , as cool as a skirt.
When you don’t want to wear jeans.
But you want to look chic & relaxed.
The secret : Heels !
It’s about wearing shorts in a more sophisticated way. Because these are not beach shorts.

Then toss on an oversized white slouchy tee with your baggy shorts and a choc brown suede bag.
Styling tip: You can do a little half tuck . Or let it hang out.
The thing I’m NOT worried about ?
Wearing two slouchy pieces together .

My philosophy: don’t compromise looking modern by trying to look slim.
Because you’ll end up looking neither.
Looking slim is not the end game: looking modern & chic is what I’m after. Right ?!
Own the look, wear the damn fashion !

Who cares if it’s “ flattering “ or not.
Because - when you think about it - the word
“flattering” actually is just another word for looking slim right ?! That to me is not the aim .
Who cares what size you look.

Which is why I never write about those silly figure fixing tips on how to dress for your shape. And all that ridiculous stuff about the “right” proportions. What looks cool now in fashion is not necessarily what is flattering or slimming.
Fashion changes !
That’s why we love it. Those rules are never set in stone.
What your eye thinks looks cool right now will be different in 5 years. Own it and wear the fashion.

Wear what you feel good in !
Which for me is something modern, cool & chic. Like shorts & a slouchy tee.

Beige pants ! Slouchy, baggy, beige pants. They are the KEY piece in your every day wardrobe. These slouchy beige pants @lululemonausnz are fabulous.
Why ?
Because they’re instant wardrobe updaters. They work wonders. Chicer than jeans but just as casual. As handy as black pants but just as versatile. You need them in your life! They immediately lighten up all the dark jackets you own, add instant kick to whites and neutrals. (I wear some style of beige /camel pants just about every single day).(they are all different) ( not joking!)

What’s to love about these slouchy pants @lululemonausnz  Let me count the ways ! * They have a sneaky elastic waist.
Hello! The comfort factor just went right up a notch. You just pull them on and off, style them lower or higher on the waist however you feel. * They’re in a breathable , stretchy fabric * There is a clever interior hidden drawstring waist .
* oh and pockets ! * A flat front so you have one too ( pleats can be hard to wear sometimes ) * The length is generous, super long and supposed to puddle. (although I might just get them taken up a little to wear with flats). *!Machine washable .(I think they’re my new travel pants, don’t really crush, beyond comfortable, you won’t want to take them off.)

How to wear them : In summer slouchy camel pants are so easy with this simple @lululemonausnz white tank and heels 👉👉👉swipe
Add a tan suede designer belt and a chic neutral shoe: done. 
In chillier weather : these beige slouchy pants instantly joosh up a short black bomber jacket over a white tee. And of course they are a match made in heaven with my white @lululemonausnz trench.( they have the best trenchcoats!) 
BTW the colour of the pants is called sheer oak (it’s tricky to get the colour right on my phone - much better IRL.).
I’m wearing a size large & they are a perfect fit.

Crop jackets : Shop my picks luxe to less on The FiFi Report !

Feels fresh & new after years of long blazers.
Don’t get me wrong I still love & adore long jackets & coats.

But I am FEELING that the shorter jacket is right.
And it’s all I seem to be wearing to be honest.
I just know that this shape is coming, that it’s on the fashion horizon. That can only mean one thing : Invest now !

When FiFi sniffs out a trend you best get cracking .
We will see it on the runways for winter at Fashion month ( happening now!) and you know the FiFi philosophy : invest early in a trend & get years of wear!

Which one ?
I am talking about a utility jacket, a short denim jacket, a short trench, a crop leather peacoat or a bomber. It might even be a short blazer.
It should sit ( more or less) on the waist.
It should be in all the FiFi approved colours; Camel, cream, chocolate, brown or khaki.
Black is ok. Maybe white. Always beige.

It might have pockets, epaulettes, or a cinched in waist.
It might be more a shacket than a barn jacket. Look for cotton, for wool twill, for denim. Maybe leather. Chanel style tweed ? Yes. But be careful they can look frumpy ( can be tricky to style you need something edgy ).

How to wear it? It’s your go to jacket right now and right into autumn : wear every day over a white tee or a white tank.
Over a blue button down shirt? Yes
Tuck in the collar. ( collars annoy me sometimes because they are messy!). Try a crop jacket with slouchy chinos,baggy jeans, tailored pants.
A crop jacket works with waist defining flirty midi skirts, shorts or a pencil skirt. It’s the perfect proportion. Try it !

Tip: the hem of the jacket doesn’t need to meet the top of your pants or skirt. It’s fine to show a little bit of a white tee/knit. A long knit in winter looks great under a crop jacket: it works! It’s just about getting your eye used to the different styling.

I’m having a short jacket moment!
Feels fresh & new after years of long blazers.
Don’t get me wrong I still love & adore long jackets & coats but a short crop jacket is what I keep reaching for every time .

If you’ve been following me for a while now you know I have a serious trench addiction ( tried trench rehab : did not work!)
Doesn’t matter if it’s long or short or cropped or raincoat: I’m obsessed with trenchcoats .
And I’m ok with that. It means I know my style.

Had my eye on this crop trench from @cosstores_au and I showed great discipline…ha..until it went on sale @theiconicau

It’s like a summery light jacket: it’s something you’d grab instead a cardigan on a summer’s night. ( a crop cardigan ? Not FiFi approved, shapeless & frumpy) .

This crop trench is only available in one size which I love : it’s dramatic and oversized so it fits every one. And because it’s cropped it’s perfect with a high waist skirt : I’ve tossed it back with my choc brown @matteau skirt I nabbed last year from @davidjonesstore .

What makes it modern is the new play on shapes & proportions : a longer straight skirt with a voluminous short jacket.

The skirt is fab because it works across seasons & I’ll wear it in winter with brown knee high boots & a knit ( oh & with a crop winter jacket or a long trench of course !)

Styling tips :
The white mules lighten the look , break up the neutrals.
The brown Valentino @netaporter belt elevates both the skirt & the low key cotton casual jacket.
My favorite bags right now are in brown or tan : you don’t need to match bags to the shoes : dirigible that old fashioned notion pronto.
Stick to three colours on the body : two colours is a bit matchy match and more than three ? Who has time to think that through ?? Ha !

Sometimes you just find great pieces on sale.
Like this fabulous pleather skirt from @zara .
Nabbed it on the sale rack last week for the price of a sandwich in Double Bay. Ha ! Almost .

Here’s the thing : the label actually said XS and I looked at it and thought they’ve got it wrong - mmm that might just fit me ! It didn’t look so tiny but I’m usually a size large at Zara.

Moral to the story ?
Ignore stoopid size labels.
Sometimes I will buy an extra large if it looks better.
Sometimes an extra small. Who cares what size it is I just wanna look good & feel great . Try it on and see!

Anyway back to this outfit & this is a fabulous colour skirt :
* It’s that totally versatile khaki /choc brown colour that works with everything.
* it’s pleather so actually not too hot ( better in winter).
* it’s A line so a great cut
* it’s long so in winter I’ll wear it with knee high boots and there won’t be a gap !
* I’ve tossed it over a white tee & back with my fav utility vest @zara and white mules ( hope you got them!) @tonybianco .

Styling tips:
Think 3 colours on the body. White, camel, khaki.
Add white shoes to lighten the look.
You can try a either a tan @gucci or neutral @ysl clutch bag
Don’t be afraid to mix textures like pleather & cotton.
Go for classic colours updated to new modern shapes.
Before you buy anything always ask : can I wear it in summer and winter ? Will it go day to night ? What’s the cost per wear?

What to wear right now when the heat is on?
These are some of my favourite summer lewks on high rotation!

These are just fabulous pieces I’ve invested in over the last few years. And I pull out again and again in the middle of summer.
Because they work. Because I feel good in them.
Cool, comfortable & chic.

The thing is : if you buy early in the trend you get years of wear. A lot of these pieces are more than 5 years old. They’re still going strong.
Just remember to update the classics into modern shapes, keep it simple and default to white shoes.
It doesn’t get easier than that !

Shoes maketh the outfit.

It’s a FiFi philosophy 👉Don’t ever try anything on and decide what to wear without first putting on your shoes.

You are not going out in barefeet !
So why try on clothes like that ?!

Shoes are everything :

* They add fashion edge - so I use shoes to get the fashion oomph as I’m not interested in wearing any clothes with cuts outs, mini skirts, cleavage, kooky colours or pesky prints.
But silver flats ? Yes !
Red pointy kitten heels? Yes!
Animal print boots ? Of course!
White net ballet flats ?! Love !

* They are instant wardrobe updaters : pull on white pointy mules and watch your old wardrobe get a lovely injection of cool.

* You’ll get more mileage from your current wardrobe with new updated shoes.

* They add height ( trousers hang better)( skirts look chic)( shorts look sophisticated)

* They lighten up your whole lewk especially white shoes.

* They add the all important third colour in an outfit and instantly break up the monotone.

* They add personality, wit & create a vibe.

* Change the shoes, change the look - wear the same clothes but swap out sneakers for heels & it completely changes the look.

Remember when you’re trying anything on - at home or in the fitting room you MUST put on shoes , only then can you decide what to wear or what to buy. When you try on clothes in bare feet you only get half the picture.

It’s FiFi’s fitting room rule 101 : put on shoes !

Bermuda shorts – to the knee – this summer are

Bermuda shorts – to the knee – this summer are looking totally right.
The trick ? Add heels. Because these are city shorts.A chic sophisticated alternative to a summer skirt. They’re not beach shorts. OK ?

Why you want them:  Because they are modern and chic.
Because they feel new ( how good is that!).
Versatile as pants but much cooler when it gets hot.
You get the benefit of a summery skirt but with the practicality of pants.
And the single piece that will inject a little cool and edge into your wardrobe. We all need that right?

Styling tips;  Go a size bigger so they sit lower on the waist. And then they are longer in length.
Wear bermudas with a white tank and a slouchy long blazer. A sleeveless vest is totally chic with shorts.
Try with a bomber jacket or a crop trench which both sit on the waist. They give good shape. A cotton blue ( or denim) shirt tucked into shorts always looks chic..

Shoes?
Wear with mules, strappy sandals and pointy kitten heels. You need heels as a general rule to edge height and sophistication. Choosing the right flats is tricky. But if you feel confident then go for loafers or pointy white flats.
Dad sandals? You might look like tourist going on hike. haha.
