FiFi’s Guide to dressing for the office:
The jacket:
You want navy. You want tailoring. You want double breasted – it’s new and trending – like this fabulous Balmain jacket. ( Not a suburb, it’s a jacket ). Hyperventilating? Head to Trenery or Zara for more affordable options. Ditch a boring single breasted corporate blazer.
The long sleeveless vest:
I have one word to say to you. Hot. Love. Must buy. Oops, that’s four. This Marni vest is perfecto. It’s totes trans-seasonal. Layer over a tee, knit or blouse. Best with pants. Feel free to head to French Connection for a less expensive version #J’adore.
The Skirt:
Think about a longer length. Au revoir and kiss that mini skirt goodbye. Mwah Mwah. You want a skirt that’s flirty, flared on or below the knee. The Bassike grey skirt gets all the ticks. A flattering cut. Grey is great. Means you can wear black shoes and a black top. No head to toe black for you. If you do buy a pencil yawn skirt it should be in leather or in lace. That’s so you don’t fall asleep zzzz every time you pull it out.
The sweater:
Think about a black sweater that is short and cropped. Seed do a great one. It will happily meet the top of your high waist skirt. Then buy it a drink. The styling trick? Layer it over a white shirt. It’s easy.
The Black pant:
Think about black pants with front pleats that zoom into a narrow ankle. You want a sporty luxe ankle situation going on such as these pants from French Connection. A low crutch is still cool like these fabulous Camilla and March pants. #comfortable too. Ditch boring black classic straight pants. Wrong.
The boxy top:
You want a boxy top for next season. You will get used to the voluminous shape. Then you will love how it skims over the magnum situation. White is perfect. And this grey Saba top is tops. You will see how it loves both a skirt or pants. And it will be begging to go out with a summer trench. ( Why? Because a tight blazer is totes wrong. Soz).
The white tank:
It’s got to be in leather. Perforated leather. Now look at that : You have gone from drab to fab just by being more adventurous with fabrics. #ohyeah. Ditch a tight white tee. Now.
The blouse:
Please go to your wardrobe and pull out any tight cotton button up shirts. Good. Now make a pile and drive to the Op shop. Bless. Loyal FiFi Report readers know that it’s all about a floaty blouse. Pretty and feminine. You want this divine James Perse blouse. If the V-neck is too low just toss on a camisole.
The Shoes:
Shoes make your look. Repetez. Repetez. Especially at the office where you can be more adventurous with shoes than your clothes non? Any shoes with lacing like these from Nine West are right. Anything with a pointy toe like these divine heels from Mode Collective are hot. Anything with a square heel in black and white gets my vote. Ditch boring shoes. They are not allowed. It’s actually against the law. #fashionpolice
The Bag:
Splurge as much as you can on a quality designer handbag. Best cost per wear. Ever. Buy tan or grey. Those colours work in summer. Lighten your outfit. How much are we loving Sophie Hulme’s collection of handbags at the moment? A lot. Great price. You will drool over this grey gorgeous Nina Ricci bag. Ditch any bags with too much glitz and hardware.
The Black dress.
Update your black dress. Ditch the boring black sheath. You are not a flight attendant. Look for shapes that have interesting twists and turns. One shoulder. Draping. Architectural shapes like all of these dresses. Who says you can’t wear leather to the office? Maybe your Boss. Oops. Just buy this fabulous leather dress because you love it. #best reason to get dressed in the morning.
