Wet weather weekend dressing !
It’s time to start thinking about your wet weather wardrobe.
The rain and winter cold weather is coming soon so you may as well look chic !
What’s important ?
All these pieces are not silly one off items that you suddenly bought when it was raining and will never wear again.
Mais non !
You will get seasons of wear from all these FiFi Fav Finds.
Even when the sun is shining again.
My philosophy: Always about building a wardrobe, getting mileage from your favourite pieces and wearing things again and again. Cost per wear. Trying to be a conscious consumer.
And the good news is that because life is so much more casual now you can wear all these pieces many different ways. From work to weekend, in the city , in the country and when you’re traveling. These days we don’t have such a segregated wardrobe separated by strict criteria and occasions. You can pretty much wear your wardrobe any day of the week.
The key pieces that will go the distance into next week/season? Lots of jackets of course ! Today I have zeroed in on rainy wet weather pieces but any of these jackets are chic any time: A fabulous long parka, a rain jacket ( duh), an oversized trench coat, a quilted jacket , a barn jacket and a long puffer. Any of those pieces look fabulous layered over a slouchy knit. Then grab your old pleather leggins or leather jeans, add sneakers, chunky boots and toss on a cross body bag , a fabulous umbrella and a cool bucket hat ! Done.
*Remember: it doesn’t need to be raining to wear a trench.
If you just buy any of these pieces I’ve listed here they will immediately make all your last season/ old favorites look new and exciting. One groovy new fashion piece does wonders for the rest of your wardrobe.
Let me give you an example: So you might have some straight ( skinny!) jeans still lurking in your wardrobe. If you keep wearing them with those old short ankle boots ( you know the ones, we all had them) a tight sweater and short narrow blazer it’s so000 wrong. Looks dated. Sorry. ( let’s face it the reason you’re here is to look and feel modern , chic and best for your age). But take those old narrow jeans and pull on a new oversized sweater and big quilted jacket , flat combat boots (or cool sneakers) and what do you have ? Instant chic!
Remember it’s the shoes that sell the top : meaning that by just swapping out old daggy shoes for something new like pointy sock boots, combat boots, ballet flats or sneakers you bring life back into your tired old wardrobe.
Suddenly that old top looks cool ( Try this little trick with white pointy flats or cool sneakers and you will be amazed by what happens ).
Note: Go for a jacket that’s not black. Instead reach for all the FiFi approved colours like beige, camel and taupe and choc brown. Why? Because outerwear is what everyone sees first, it’s the statement making piece. You can throw on your old (black) pieces under there and no one will know! A black coat is not so versatile and quite limiting. Keep wearing one if you own it but my advice is if you are buying one jacket/coat this season go for a neutral. Same applies to a black blazer, it only looks good with jeans. Think about it : a black blazer/ coat with black pants ? It’s actually really hard to get right funnily enough and can be one ginormous snoozefest.
