Your spring wardrobe checklist: instant updaters you will love! #FiFiapproved.

Here’s the thing:
You don’t need to buy a whole new wardrobe each season.

The FiFi philosophy? It’s all about building a wardrobe and adding to it each season. Just to give it an extra joosh.
You should already have the building blocks of your wardrobe (see this post ) so this week I am focusing on the pieces to nab right now. These are the pieces that will instantly update your current wardrobe for summer.

These are the pieces will effortlessly slide into your wardrobe as they will work with everything you own. Which means you will get maximum cost per wear . Oh and most importantly they will spark joy ! Which is why we love fashion in the first place right ?!

The key pieces for summer;

The utility vest.
I’ve been talking about a utility vest for a while now: You may have already invested in the Zara one or the Uniqlo utility vest as I have. What I like about them ? They’re a great cover-up as an alternative to a blazer. Love the sporty vibe. And so versatile: you can wear with a T-shirt, over a fine knit or just alone with nothing underneath. The best news is they hide a multiple of things ( like the muffin situation) because they are loose. This is good.  Buy here.
The utility trend is a thing ( as we saw at Prada show!) so any jackets with pockets and a funnel neck like this is HOT.

A Brown or white blazer.
A blazer is a core piece to your summer wardrobe. I use a blazer almost like a cardigan. I toss it sitting on my shoulders in summer to go out if it’s chilly or need to joosh the look.  Toss it over a T-shirt with jeans. It’s such a great look. If you have been a loyal FiFi Report reader, you probably have a camel blazer by now.  So if you need to inject something new into your wardrobe, then go for a white square shoulder blazer. White is fresh and chic. Instantly updates everything !
I know some of you will freak out at a white blazer and I get it (it does get dirty!) so I suggest investing in a chocolate Brown blazer. Looks new. Works in summer with white. And it will take you right through to next winter. Look for an oversize shape, shoulder pads, and something that is comfortable to wear.

Balloon pants (or barrel if you prefer ):
Have you seen the balloon pants around? I should rephrase that as I haven’t seen actually anyone wearing them yet. They seem to be a thing on Instagram, which, if you didn’t know is not real life! Who knew?! Haha. But I do like the idea of them for high summer. In fact, I have a few pairs from Uniqlo a couple of years back that have an elastic hem.
I think these are good for summer holidays. You just have to be careful not to look like “I dream of Jeannie”. I’d go for a chic drawstring hem . You want in white or black maybe brown, it’s an exaggerated shape and you get a lot of bang for your buck in terms of fashion impact. I’d wear with a little white tank, shoulder pad tee and probably a little kitten heel sandal.

A sporty track jacket.
The sporty track jacket is one of my fav pieces. I’ve always loved sporty luxe. It’s such a great way to look fashion, but also look low-key and cool. Sporty. Ha ! Loving a short jacket at the moment and the track sporty jacket is a good alternative to an oversized blazer . The idea is to wear it with heels and dress it up. It’s the contrast between the laid-back jacket and a more dressed up skirt or pants. It’s definitely an instant wardrobe updater. Like this.

The sleeveless vest.
Have you invested in the sleeveless vest yet? I’ve been talking about it for a few years now. A totally versatile piece : it will add instant fashion edge to your wardrobe. Similar to a utility vest, but this vest is like a sleeveless jacket. A bit more sophisticated. It might not even have buttons or nor even a zip. It might have shoulder pads. Or a belt. It might be long over the hips. It might be in linen, it might in cotton. Invest in brown, black to camel and white.  Style over a white tee with jeans, with shorts, or as a set with matching slouchy pants. Like this

Bermuda shorts.
I’ve been wearing Bermuda shorts for a couple of summers now and love them ! More like cropped pants than shorts.
A great alternative to a skirt. They should be to the knee and a little bit baggy. I may as well mention that Capri pants are also making a comeback and I am here for it. They are really just a narrow bermuda shorts right? I think they look fresh and I will definitely nab a pair. No tight capris (like leggings) for me, I’ll do more like a cropped pant. I’ll wear with a big oversized blazer and with heels. Like this.

A midi dress in brown, black or white.
You may already have a midi dress in your wardrobe, so it’s not necessarily a new piece. But I think it’s worth including here as your wardrobe needs a casual every day midi dress or two. ( Mid shin !) (a long maxi dress to the floor only looks good at the beach IMO)(BTW I will cover party dresses in a later post) . You want a fit and flare shape, a neater top with the flare skirt. The dress may have shoulder pads. Short sleeves are good if you feel like you need to cover your arms, just make sure it’s more of a dramatic sleeve than something tight. Love a strappy cutaway dress too in a more voluminous style. Go for brown black and white and just wear them on repeat all summer. With flats or a low heel mule. Like this

Something Lace;
Yes,  a little but of lace can go a long way. A fabulous way to instantly update your wardrobe. Love this idea of a touch of lace inspired by The Row. I like that little bit of texture and prettiness hanging out the bottom of a knit or blazer. As I’m wearing here . This Zara dress ( you wear it as a top) , worn with white pants here  is so chic.. ! Or just go for a lace cami under a blazer or try a lace trim skirt. Like this.

I’ve added in a few accessories here but next week I’ll focus on shoes, bags, hats and jewelry plus the best sunglasses!
