Sneakers : what to buy, why you need and how to wear them !

Sneakers.
They’re having a moment!
Flat shoes are a happening trend. Comfort is a happening trend. Sporty luxe is a happening thang.
Which means sneakers are more popular than ever but most importantly so right fashion wise.
The good news is they are a great casual alternative to loafers for winter/winter rainy days.
Oh and how good are sneakers for your trip overseas ?
All that walking means comfortable shoes are de rigueur but in Paris you want to chic too of course.

There are so many fabulous sneakers around it’s hard to choose which ones.
It can get confusing right ?
Never fear FiFi is here !
You might have white sneakers but it’s now time to update to new styles and colours.
Because shoes are THE quickest and easiest way to update up your current wardrobe.

Remember these sneakers are not to wear when exercising.
Mais non !
These are for when you’re out and about: when you want to look casual and chic.
When you want to be comfortable.
But look like you have made an effort !

What to look for?
Loving the retro sneakers at the moment. Of course chunky are good but the slimmer style sneakers are what’s cool right now. You can probably put it down to Miu Miu /New Balance collab which kickstarted the trend.( sold out but dupes here with the coloured laces) . In terms of colour go for white of course but also love choc brown, neutrals and caramels. Perfect to slip straight into your current minimalist wardrobe.
But if you want an instant of injection of cool and ( dare I say !) colour then sneakers are the way to go.
NB if you go for a colour then a camel sole ( not black ) on any colour sneakers means they will automatically go with your neutral wardrobe…See my picks below,

How to wear them?

  • You need to look cool and sometimes I get worried I look like I am going to play bowls haha.
My point being ? You need to make sure you are also wearing something edgy and fashiony.
  • Rememenber tight jeans + tight knit + sneakers is so dated.  Go slouchy or go home.
  • Sneakers love and adore LONG coats. Match made in heaven.
  • A slouchy trousers suit looks great with sneakers.
  • Throw on a knit, pleather pants and a long, long trench plus sneakers = cool chic.
  • Sneakers also love big slouchy sweaters, a puffa jacket and leather leggins or trackpants.
  • You can wear with a skirt with sneakers but if should be A line or midi.
  • It’s a trend to wear sneakers with socks, I’d do the same colour neutral or white.
  • but sock and sneakers with a skirt? For me it’s a bit too school girl. Hard to carry off. But feel free !
  • Rule of thumb: With wide leg jean/chinos/ pants make sure they are long AND worn over the sneakers.
  • Keep straight jeans shorter. Roll them up if you like but with a big cuff. You want to see the ankle. And the sneakers.
  • Try to match the colours of your outfit back to a colour in the sneaker. Though if you go for bright red, blue or green then a plain neutral outfit works too. Keep the clothes monotone and then add the coloured sneakers as the main focus.

The sneakers I am wearing at the moment ?
These adidas with the brown stripe, the adidas brown suede from last year, just nabbed these New Balance from Stylerunner and adore them , comfortable and chic. Love these chunkier New Balance for walking . And of course the lululemon white sneakers for actual exercise.  BTW I have sneakers I bought years ago from Zara : some of the most comfortable I’ve ever worn see here.

Now get shopping ! I have found the best sneakers luxe to less.
BTW I have added a few very expensive designer sneakers for inspo so you get the idea of what is happening in fashion. Of course I always will add the more affordable options as well.

More on LTK as always and check out the street style inspo below !
