Brrrr ! Winter weekend warmers : everything you need to keep warm !
It’s chilly. Frequently cold. Sometimes wet.
You need to get your winter weekend wardrobe sorted right?
You want to be warm. Dry. And most importantly …chic !
No need to sacrifice style for comfort. This season everything functional and practical is actually in fashion.
How good is that!
Where to start?
Casual dressing can be so tricky : You don’t want to look too over dressed but also not like a slob either. ( that’s easy to do)(I should know !). You want to look fashiony and chic but also low key and effortless.
Here’s the secret ( but not a secret if you know the FiFi philosophies)
Invest in versatile ‘expensive’ colours updated in new shapes.
Think about outerwear that makes a statement. And fashiony foot wear. Then just fill in the gaps !
Big coats. Big boots. Slouchy sweaters. Leather pants. Baggy jeans. Done.
Everybody keep calm ( or should I say warm hehe) I have found the best winter warmers.
This post is really all about those extra pieces that will really keep you toasty. We are talking fabulous jackets and a few capes but most importantly accessories like gloves, scarves and beanies and a bit of faux fur. Perfect for the weekend.
A barn jacket:
It’s the cool jacket of the season and next : Perfect for winter. Perfect for weekends too.
Go for brown or taupe, khaki ( surprise!) and make it big. Oversized. A neat barn jacket just looks prim and as I always say you dont want to look like The Queen at balmoral. Wear with leather pants, jeans and pointy boots.

I do love a shacket. (Jacket/shirt).
So handy. So practical. SO easy to throw on when you to look totally casual but chic.
It needs to be layered it over a poloneck sweater or a knit.
It’s a jacket so it needs to be worn undone. Left open. And it needs to be big. And it must be long.
It could be denim, suede leather or soft wool.
Anorak /rain parka.
Apart from being practical they are the chicest jackets. Just the thing you need for weekends when other jackets can look to0 chi chi , too dressed up or done. When it’s raining and you want to be dry. Ha ! Also just a cool look. Short is chic but knee length or longer is great. Make it slouchy. Make it in taupe or brown, khaki is good too. Lots to choose – I have this fabulous one, it’s so good from Lululemon
A leather jacket:
It’s not a biker tough jacket with zips. No, No it’s something chicer than that.
It might be cut like a slouchy blazer. It might be a chic bomber or a long oversized blouson style jacket. (Ooooh I have ordered this ). It might be like a crop trench. (I have this, love it : so good as it’s a casual cut). Of course a jacket in suede is the item du jour. You wear it with baggy jeans or chinos. Slouchy pants or a denim skirt and flat boots.
A puffer jacket.
Make it big. the bigger the better. I don’t care if I look like the Michelin man! Go for anything except black. Yes all the fifi approved colours like taupe, khaki, grey and delicious Brown. Cream is chic. They’re in every colour now (but 5 years ago I had to hunt down to find one in beige! True ! Zara had and it was a thrill to find it.)
It might be long. It might be a sleeveless vest. It might be short and cropped. In terms of styling puffer jackets? They are not just for active wear they also look great with A line skirts, slouchy pants and all your leather pants. See here.
After a slouchy sweater or three? Everything you need to know and the best ones here.
Now let’s talk boots and shoes:
If you had to buy one pair of boots for the weekend then make them knee high. And flat. Because they fit under wide leg jeans AND you can wear with a long skirt. Say goodbye to all those short ankle boots. Stat. They only looked good with skinny jeans. And you know where have gone! Goodbye ! I adore gumboots/wellies at the moment and if it keeps raining I will be living in those. Invest in loafers. Invest in sneakers. Invest in furry footwear. See my picks below !
Styling tips:
- Stick to chic versatile colours that love each other like the ones below: They all go together, look flattering. Chic. Avoid too much black unless it has texture ( and god forbid in bright colours!)(aging and never look expensive unless they are).
- Keep everything big and fashiony. Otherwise you will look like a prim sloane ranger and not in a good way. Ha.
Remember baggy + baggy = cool. Baggy + neat = chic. Neat + neat = wrong ! - Worried about looking too oversized? If you feel overwhelmed balance out the tight with the loose. SO try leather leggins with a big jumper and coat. Or a neater short jacket with baggy pants. Straight jeans are a good investment as they are fashiony but not too overwhelming. Remember the big coats and boots balance each other You need the big shoes to cope with oversized coats..
- Use accessories to make a statement or add a dash of colour. ( khaki is colour!) It might be fabulous gloves, a big scarf, a cute beanie, bucket hat, a sleeveless vest or a cape.
