Denim. Denim. Denim… & more denim ! The key pieces you need right now.
What do we all want to wear right now?
Denim. Denim. And more denim.
It‘s so right this season. (Actually when is it not?)
Trans-seasonal. Ageless. Casual. Cool.
Just the thing you want throw on in this cold/warm/chilly autumn weather.
When you don’t want to get too dressed up but still look cool? Denim does the trick.
When you want to look low key and effortless? Denim head to toe.
When you want to add a little edge? Denim mixed back with classics.
When you can’t be bothered styling yourself? Grab denim. White loafers. Camel blazer. Duh.
This week I have found all sorts of pieces in denim from jeans, to shirts, dresses to jackets and shoes and bags..
Any denim is great ( brown ! Grey !) but I am primarily sticking to a mix of blue denim.
( hint: usually when you click on an item it will also be available in black as well as white denim).
These are all pieces you will love because they easily mix back with your own wardrobe . So much denim so little time !
* Remember the key to jooshing up your wardrobe is to update the classics (Please do not rush out and buying crazy colours and frumpy florals. Buy better, fewer pieces.)
The big styling trick?
Denim with denim is such a cool look at the moment and double denim is almost de rigueur this season. Blue denim also works back with black leather and slouchy knits. The best news is a that blue denim also LOVES and adores camel and tan, white and chocolate brown. Divine. It makes it so easy to slot it all right into your wardrobe.
Tip: I am not a fan of spending a lot of money on denim : why would you when all the major high street brands like Zara, H&M, Mango and Uniqlo get it so right at great prices. ( they spend a fortune getting the fit right because ….they can). And I would rather spend my hard earned cash on a fabulous designer bag or on expensive jacket. It’s high low dressing at its best !

Your shopping list:
A denim jacket:
Lots of different options here! You can go for the classic denim jacket (check out the options below) in an oversized 80’s style. Or try a shorter look that is like a crop jacket. I bought this and I love it ! (It’s big, get usual size or smaller). Looks great over a white Tee with jeans. And with leather pants (my winter uniform). I love a neater little denim jacket with wide leg chinos/camel pants. Also in the denim jacket department is a shacket. A shirt / jacket. It’s bigger and longer. You wear it undone over a white tank with a skirt or jeans. Love a denim bomber jacket. It looks new. The short crop cut looks great and gives good waist. Also in the denim jacket department? A blazer: I think it’s so cool. SO handy. SO versatile. It means you can keep wearing your slouchy camel pants and white tee but the denim blazer adds a low key laid back edge. And can we talk about this fabulous denim barn jacket? Now you’re talking ! Wear with camel chinos, black leather pants and white knit/Tee.
A denim shirt :
So many denim shirts around this season. There is the classic denim shirt. ( this is fab from Uniqlo !) But then there is also the pretty denim shirt with a frill, puff sleeves or a pussy bow or tie thingamigig. There is a shacket ( an oversized denim shirt) or a short crop denim shirt. Also loving the short sleeve denim shirt. Looks great with high waist jeans. Not much fabric to tuck in. Good for this warm weather. How to style ? Double denim it with jeans, or try with camel chinos. Love the flash of a denim shirt under a camel trench or denim under a tan suede jacket or brown coat. Yes!
A denim skirt:
It might be a flirty full denim skirt in a dark denim. It might be a pencil skirt in a lighter denim. It might be an A -Line button front skirt ( flattering cut!) .A denim pencil skirt should also go in at the knees ( that weird boxy straight up and down look never looks good on anyone). Love a A line midi denim skirt with knee high boots or with loafers. With a white tee or a knit. Later with a long coat and knits. It’s your winter go to skirt !
Wide leg jeans:
So you have straight , loose jeans but do you have side pocket wide legs jean? Almost denim pants! They are just a little more sophisticated and chicer than your average jeans. You need them. They’re what you want to wear with a pretty blouse going out for dinner with strappy heels or mules. Otherwise wide leg jeans abound ! See below.
Barrel jeans:
They’re the newest shape and I love them. I have been wearing that style for a while and now it’s official ! Love them as they are little shorter and a bit of ankle is so fresh and so right. Perfect with loafers and ballet flats. If you are worried there is too much volume in barrel jeans , do a front tuck with knits and tee and wear with a little kitten heel. Go up a size and wear so they sit lower. You can go brown ( best ones at HM, go regular waist) white, dark denim or light blue. Grey is good too. Lots below: I have every colour and wear the Zara carrot leg (go up a size) on repeat , shop it here on my Pinterest page.
A slouchy jean:
Almost a classic now. Updated of course. It could be straight low and baggy. Or high rise and wide leg. Go big or go home. So comfortable and so cool. Instant wardrobe updaters. You can almost keep wearing your old tight blazer because when you toss on slouchy jeans everything gets new lease of life. Everything !
Low rise skinny jeans:
I must discuss as I know they were on the runway at Miu last season. Yes, they will come back one day. And in a different way. In the mean time ignore them as I know the low skinny jean is years away from being the new normal. If you do want to do skinny under a huge blazer then leggins or stirrup pants look right. Skinny jeans are so hard to carry off especially at a certain age as quite often you look like you are still wearing it from the first time round ! As if you never stopped wearing them . Eeeek. Not a good look. And Miu miu showed the low rise skinny and it was all about showing off your midriff . As if I will be doing that !! I don’t want scare babies and small animals Lols.
Denim Bermuda short:
I do love denim culottes and long baggy bermudas. SO cool. Great with heels. Fabulous for the beach yes but also into winter with loafers and heels. Love these. Best idea? Just cut off your old short jeans to knee length. Done! I think I may do that with my old white jeans .
