My key piece for summer ?
Say hello to the latest item du jour:
A waistcoat.  A sleeveless jacket. A vest.
Call it when you like – I call it cool. It’s a great piece for summer.
Yes, I already invested in vests and waistcoats a couple of seasons ago and I will be pulling them all out again:
Why? They’re an instant wardrobe joosher.

What’s to love?
It’s a new exciting shape so instantly updates your old current pieces .
It’s tailored: it gives good shape.
Meaning ? It is structured so is more flattering than a sloppy flimsy white tee that shows everything. The vest skims over the bits. Doesn’t cling. Instantly gives you shape …even you don’t have it.
The tailoring and sharp cut adds polish to any outfit.
A sleeveless jacket is a great alternative to a blazer if you want more coverage.
It does the same thing as a jacket – except the bare arms make it much more warm weather appropriate. You have your own inbuilt air con on warmer days. Love that !

Which one to choose?
Choose any colour as long as it’s white, beige, grey  or black ! Ha.
I love the sleeveless longer vest/ jacket or a classic waistcoat.
(Hint: black looks best in summer because the flash of skin lightens it up).
With a vest ( rather than a waistcoat) It should probably have wide shoulders ( shoulder pads are great!)
And should be long so it covers the top of thighs if you like that.
I am loving the waistcoat style: As well as be pulling out my white linen set again this summer I have also invested into another linen set : this time in a chic grey concrete colour. Love it ! Buy here.

How to wear it?
With jeans. Slouchy chinos. White pants. Black pants. Camel pants.
If you do go for a skirt it should be full and long.  (No pencil skirts )( looks all too tight and straight).
Make sure skirts and pants are high waisted so they sit under the bottom of the waistcoat.
No flashing of scary muffin for me. Yikes !
I’d wear the longer sleeveless jacket with slouchy pants or a pleat skirt with flats. See inspo below!
Best thing is that this is the perfect piece to wear to the office.
Don’t want to show your arms?
Please don’t cry.
Just toss on a short sleeve white tee under any of these vests.
( a white shirt under it = too much like bank uniform)( or swashbuckling Pirate)( which is fine if you want that look)( you don’t !)
I will probably toss a tight white tank under a waistcoat to cover the cleavage area.
And you could easily toss a trench over the top if you’re chilly. Of course.
(Rather than a blazer which can be a bit too contrived and hard to carry off.)( three piece suit? Tricky).
There are so many street style ideas below to give you ideas.
