Summer casual weekend dressing ! #under$250. #FiFiFavFinds
It’s your Guide to summer weekend dressing.
Good news!
Looking casual and fabulous is easy. Especially when everything is under $250 or less.
The secret?
Stick chic FiFi approved colours.
No surprises there !
These colours look expensive but don’t have to be.
Also means more versatility and more mileage from your wardrobe.
I’m talking neutrals with white and touches of blue and tan. A soupcon of black.
You will look chic. Get dressed with your eyes closed.
Just remember to update the classics into new modern shapes.
And when in doubt add white shoes !
Hint: scroll down to shop from the slideshow below.
The simple toss on dress:
It should be chic , loose , long and easy to throw on. It could be in navy, white, khaki or neutral. Black is chic of course ( I bought this and love it). And this tunic ( bought it ! go for 2 sizes bigger ) or T shirt dress. Bought this one and it’s perfect to toss over a swimsuit.
The low key evening dress.
Look for relaxed shape, pockets ( yes!) fit and flare shape and elastic so it’s comfortable. Go for one shoulder dress, or a halter dress. A tiered dress. A jumpsuit is always low key chic. Whatever shape it needs to be maxi. Lots here in last week’s Report.
The wide linen pants:
De rigueur for the weekend. Update them this season! You want glamorous wide leg palazzo pants In white or neutral. Linen tops looks great with linen pants ( they are supposed to crush!) or a cotton tank or shirt.
The White statement/puff sleeve top:
it’s better than a plain white tee. More flattering, not clingy, easier to wear on its own. The sleeves add vavavoom and give good arm coverage . Give the illusion of slim arms like this one ( that’s my story and I’m sticking to it !) and this white one in Zara: Hint: a white tank looks best with a long full skirt and this beige top with white jeans is a great look.
A stripe top and knit.: Who doesn’t love a stripe knit? The best way to get print into your wardrobe ( the only print you will see here!) . Go for relaxed long sleeve ( these Kule are the best!) or go a stripe shoulder pad Tee.
Beige chinos .
Not black pants but just as chic. Not jeans but just as casual. These are great and these too in a light beige. Cargoes are great too. They look fabulous with strappy sexy heels or with white dad sandal. They key to your summer wardrobe.
The long skirt:
It should be long like this to wear with a white Tee or a simple tank. Go for a big size bigger so it sits lower and doesn’t dig into the ‘ situation’. You want it to look loose and relaxed , (like this one, ! with a matching top that tucks in) Nothing tight and uncomfortable.
The summer cream sweater.
You need this when it get chilly at night ..I bought this Arket sweater in brown in winter and LOVED it…was thrilled to find it again in off white. It’s the perfect neck and length. Wore it all through last summer ( In Melbourne !) when it got chilly.
White/Blue wide leg Jeans:
Crucial to your summer holiday. Wide leg. High waist. In white. Light blue. Dark denim. Surely you got the wide leg memo ?? The thing is: If you update to high waist , wide leg jeans and tuck in the top, suddenly those old tops look modern..

The Hat:
You want a big raffia hat. Or a cute cotton pull on bucket hat in a white or neutral. May as well look chic as you save your skin !
The bag:
Nothing chicer than a simple straw bag: Perfect for casual weekends. Adds texture. The colours work with neutrals. Go an extra big size (BUY from the BUSH) Or invest in a canvas tote bag like this one . Love this chic straw tote .
The shoes:
When in doubt pull on white shoes. If you hate thongs (such as my good self ) best to grab white Birkenstocks, the most comfortable shoes ever invented, or plain white Birks. Invest in neutral dad sandals because they instantly add a fashion edge to everything you own. No joke. I suggest a white mule with a small heel : always a good idea. Casual but still a bit jooshy. And classic Bensimon sneakers are the best !
