Tops, Tops, Tops !
It’s what everyone is always searching for, especially this time of year.
Here’s the thing:
When you stick to the philosophy of table top dressing (focus on top of the body!) all you need to think about – and invest in – is a fabulous top.
It makes dressing easy. You get mileage from your wardrobe.

Any of these tops work with jeans  ( maybe not ripped!) or slouchy stone chinos.
Pull on heels or pointy flats, a designer clutch, dingle dangle earrings and you’re good to go.
Voila : Your solution to low key party dressing and the smart casual dilemma.

But !
It’s so tricky to find great tops don’t you think?!
Let me share my strict criteria on how I chose all these fabulous statement tops:
Needs to be in white, black, blues, maybe metallic.
Can’t be boring black , it needs to have texture, shine, embellishment or be in a major shape.  That means lace, velvet or sequins or big bell sleeves.
Ignore bright colours ( hot pink never looks expensive, unless it is) and those pesky old lady prints. Aging. Never versatile.
Preferably needs to have sleeves to cover ‘muffin’ arms but a cutaway halter neck looks great.

When you keep all that in mind it narrows it right down !
Please don’t cry:

Styling tips:
Remember you can wear all of these tops with denim jeans, camel chinos or a long A line skirt like this here at Scanlan Theodore
Add major accessories like heels and a clutch bag. They can be in a colour or metallic.
Don’t forget head head to toe black in summer is chic as long as you show some skin ( the third colour!)
Tops are more versatile than a dress and they automatically give you a waist and definition.
White next to the face takes ten years off . This is good.
Love this white cutaway Zimmerman one or this one from Reiss : both work with jeans but also toss with baggy black pants and strappy heels : it’s the perfect smart casual outfit.
Update black and white into new strong modern shapes (Stops you looking like a waitress!)
