Back to the office? Your effortless work wardrobe is right here!

Oh la la: Did someone say back to work?
Yikes !
Maybe you are back in the office.
Maybe you are still on zoom.
Maybe you are meeting up with clients IRL.
The thing is :  it’s a new summer season. And it’s a new world we are living in.
Dressing for the office is now more casual and relaxed. Less corporate.
But you still need to look put together, professional and polished.

Everybody keep calm .
There are so many fabulous new clothes around that fit the bill.
Clothes that look chic wherever you are working.

The trick?
Build a wardrobe of key pieces in expensive colours .
That means they’re versatile, easy to mix and match.
Rule numero uno: Update classics into new shapes and invest in fabulous bags and shoes.

Here is your checklist of workwear pieces you need now:

A blazer. Go for beige like this Arket, camel, cream, khaki or grey. Anything but a black blazer: too dark, too boring, too limiting. You need vava voom outerwear. Make it oversized and long.

Matching pants: Yes, the trousers suit is back ( love this one!) and it aint corporate. It’s cool when it’s loose and looks effortless. Go for high waist and baggy. Peg or wide leg like these. Wear with flats or sneakers so you dress down the formality. Otherwise black pleat pants are your work horse ! Love these at Oroton.

A pretty blouse: Invest in soft pretty floaty blouse in white, taupe or cream , with big sleeves. Looks great under a suit or with jeans and heels on the weekend. Or this simple white statement top is essential like this at Theory . You need this in your life.

On the shirt note: Please think about stripe blue shirt with neutrals. In fact it’s the only way to wear it. See the whistles pic below for inspo. (It’s all slouchy but tuck yourself in if you need to!)

A leather flirty skirt: It’s great in summer with bare legs. Looks more exciting than a plain black skirt. Love this fabulous khaki skirt with a short sleeve knit or puff sleeve top. Can’t do leather? Invest in A line skirt in a black, navy or camel …and ditch that boring pencil skirt.

A summer trench: It’s handy dot com. It’s functions like a blazer. Especially when wearing a skirt. Please no blazer WITH skirts. Wrong ! Instead toss a long trench over your blouse or knit. ( Hint: the coat needs to be same length or longer than you skirt otherwise don’t bother!) Again it needs to be in taupe or a lighter colour to lighten the look. Make a statement with outerwear, basics underneath.

A summer knit top: This is a great item for one single reason: No need to iron ! Also it’s a nice alternative to shirts. Plus it skims the situation and won’t cling. Invest in navy or neutrals. Love this one at arket. This knit vest like this one at COS is fabulous to layer or on its own.

A dress: You want fit and flare, its the most modern and flattering shape. (I bought this from COS , in large, very long but a great shape !)( I am ignoring my muffin arms lols). You want a longer length, like mid shin. You want it to be in black, navy or blue like this one at Reiss.

Bags and shoes:
Invest in a lighter shoe: Tan or white. This will change your life. Uplift your black outfits and work so well with your new found neutrals. If you go for black make sure it’s a mule or strappy (A black pump is very boring, keep yours just don’t buy any more !).
In terms of bags, spend as much as you can. An expensive bag ( like this one) will instantly elevate your Zara trouser suit ! A black YSL tote is always chic and practical but when you invest in a tan or brown bag it will instantly joosh and lighten up your existing wardrobe.
