If  you are a certain age, love fashion magazines and the ‘Freedom’ George Michael Video and everything from the 1990’s this is a fabulous listen.
A great escapism and alternative to all the bad news and Corona.

From Vogue…“There are a lot of ways to tell this story,” acknowledges Hamish Bowles, host of the series, who was present at the very moment that the zeitgeist changed. And, yes, there is a date, time, and place for that: specifically March 7, 1991, during Gianni Versace’s Freedom ’90 show at the Fiera in Milan, when Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, and Cindy Crawford linked arms and walked down the runway lip-synching to George Michael’s famous song, as they had done in the video for the mega-hit.

The meta reference was lost on no one in the audience. “It was kind of like this electric jolt had charged through the room,” relates Bowles, who remembers realizing that he was “at the epicenter of a world where everything was changing,” and that it was a group of women known as the supermodels who were “a symbol, and even a vehicle, of that change.”

“These women,” notes Vogue’s Mark Holgate, “became more than just blank faces that stared out at us from a magazine cover or a magazine page. We got to know their names”—and not just in the context of fashion. These women were on the red carpet, in movies and music videos, and selling all sorts of products from the sides of buses and on television. They became the keys that opened the door to what had been a closed industry. Après elles, le déluge.

The supermodels added value to the clothes they walked down the runway. “All of a sudden you had a personality that was delivering how you could wear these clothes and who you would be when you wore those clothes,” says Vogue editor and veteran model Tonne Goodman. “They were the translators of fashion. These girls were worth their weight because they contributed to the image significantly.”
