FiFi’s fabulous Finds. You need. #now #forwinter.
This week we’re talking wardrobe basics.
The five key pieces you need to update your wardrobe for winter.
The key pieces you need to get through the season.
The five key pieces that will take you from drab to fab. From dagdom to groovedom.
As with all basics they are not in crazy colours or mad prints. They are basics. Surprise !
So we are sticking to black, navy, cream and grey.
These are pieces that have to work hard. And be totes versatile.
You can add colour with shoes or bags. Or just mix up textures.
That’s the modern – chic – way to dress.

The big oversized coat:
The buzz word du jour? Volume. The 80’s oversized silhouette is back. Please don’t cry. You will love it. Especially in a coat. The bigger, the better. Think an oversized shape. A longer length. Best colours to invest in? Naturally navy, black or grey. Feeling fashioney? Grab a big coat in soft pastels. We’re talking pale pink and blue. Not a sugary kind of girl? Never fear a masculine pinstripe coat is here. The only criteria? Your coat has to be big enough to sneak a few new pairs of shoes into the house.

The slouchy pants:
The good news? Fashion is having a laid-back moment. Say au revoir and thanks for having me to tight skinny pants. Say Bonjour to (and kiss on both cheeks ) the low slung slouchy pants. They should sit a little lower on the hips (but we are not talking bumster.Wrong.). Think loose, baggy, billowing. The cool shape is a peg leg: pleated at the top and narrow on the ankle. Not flattering for your shape? Go for a slight looseness in the hips with the leg widening cleverly into culottes. Yes, you did see the word CULOTTE. Everybody keep calm. They’re coming. Next season. In the meantime slouchy pants should sit long over your shoes to pool languidly on the floor. Tip: Not for rainy days.

The long skirt:
It’s new. It’s chic. It’s modern. It’s what every woman can wear. The long skirt is THE defining piece of your winter wardrobe. Go for a skirt that sits about mid-calf. Or just on or below the knee. It might sit flat on the hips and then flirt out. It might be a straight pencil skirt. Or pretty and pleated. It’s an instant wardrobe updater. It will change your entire look. Moral to the story? If you buy one single thing for winter, make it a long skirt.
SHOP!
Bassike, Saba, Asos and check out this fabulous one at French Connection.
The big oversized knit:
The new sweater. It’s big. Chunky. Some might say sloppy. Oversized. We are not talking a tight turtleneck. (although it’s still a winter staple) . We’re not talking an under piece. We’re talking a serious fashion statement. The new sweater does not need a jacket. It stands on its own. Go for chic winter white, grey, pastels or stripe. Black of course. It could be embellished or glittery. The coolest look around? A simple, old fashioned cream cable fisherman’s sweater. True story.

The biker jacket:
So you thought the biker jacket was just in leather? Think again. This season the biker jacket comes in every permutation. In every colour and fabric. It could be in soft leather. It might be in tweed, it could be in suede. It might be in silk, denim or faux fur. It might be tough sporty nylon. Here’s the thang: this is not a blazer. It has edge. It should have a zip. Major buttons. The most important thing? The shorter, flattering cut.
